After falling to the host team, Byron Nelson, in the opening game of the Byron Nelson Invitational tournament, the Lady Bulldogs came back with a vengeance to win their next 2 matches. The victories punched their ticket to the championship bracket.
Magnolia battled a close one against Byron Nelson in game one, but fell short 25-21. Despite an early lead in game two, the Lady Bulldogs were unable to muster enough defense to combat the heavy handed hitters of the Lady Bobcats, falling 25-13. Madison Butler led the offensive charge with 6 kills, while Chelsea Reynolds dug up 11 balls.
Game two produced a totally different outcome, as the Lady Bulldogs began clicking on all cylinders. Kylie Randall and Kerstin Cleveland finished with 7 kills each, as Magnolia rolled to a 25-14, 25-17 victory. The Lady Bulldog serving game proved to be too much for the Lady Raiders, as Alyssa Fulgium notched 5 aces, followed by Cleveland with 2. Cleveland was a menace at the line, serving 16 times in the match.
Magnolia continued to improve, beating Midlothian 25-21, 25-16 to advance to the championship bracket. The Lady Bulldogs controlled both games from the get-go, as Randall made mincemeat out of the Lady Panthers with 13 kills and a pair of aces. Cleveland's six kills aided the cause, as once again, Shayna Daniels, Randall, Fulgium and Cleveland all came through from the service line.
Magnolia will now square off against Aledo at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
