DAWGS Win Silver Championship at Spring Branch

2008 Spring Branch Tournament Silver Champions

The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs played nearly flawless volleyball throughout their Spring Branch Tournament play and finished at the top with the Silver Championship. Noticably, the key word in the statement is "nearly". That's because it's almost impossible to play flawlessly, but teams must play without any weaknesses, doubts, and unbelievable skill to go all the way in tournaments where the teams are so evenly matched. Teams at this point in the season can be playing to the top of their abilities and that's about all anyone can ask for. The DAWGS did just that Saturday morning and afternoon. The ladies consistently played brilliantly all day long; as well as they've played at any time this season and the monkey was on their opponents' backs. Everything can be going right, and then one small insignificant event can occur, and the slight imbalance sends everything into chaos. It doesn't hurt to have Lady Luck smiling on you either.

The DAWGS were within a couple of points of advancing in the championship bracket last week- but the Pearland Lady Oilers resurrected themselves to win the second set by 2 points at 27-25 and went ahead of the shell shocked Lady Bulldogs to eventually win the match. Unfortunately, for Pearland, Katy and Clear Lake it takes flawless play on their behalf to go all the way, as well. Pearland played good enough to beat them but bowed before Cy Woods in the finals of the Championship. Both of these strong teams have slipped by Magnolia this season by a few points. The point is that there is not a lot of points separating most of these teams.

MB Breane Matula (5) and OH Sarah Bacho (7)
teamed up to block another St Agnes attack
and celebrated afterward!

The DAWGS had it all working and led in this final game from beginning to end and opened their lead to 10 points before mercifully making short work of this championship series. Kelli Stewart and Katzy Randall had 8 kills apiece, while Breane Matula contributed 4 kills. Hannah Davies had 9 digs and Paige Holland dished out 21 assists. This file starts at 21-12 with the DAWGS running away with this one...
