DAWGS Sweep through 1st Day Pairings

The DAWGS began the first round of the 2007 Pearland Volleyball Classic with two well earned victories - one over Stony Point (25-8 and 25-12) early Thursday morning and the other against Hebron (25-18 and 25-20) later in the afternoon.

The DAWGS surged forward in set 1 against Hebron midway through the game at 10-9 and slowly pulled away with some great kills by OH Kelli Stewart (12-9 and 13-11) and OH Jamie Kaleh (14-12) which may have ignited the team. The Michele "Boom Boom Glide-a-rooskie" blast from the right really got them going (before Michele was 'rotated-out') and replaced by MB Hannah Fort who immediately scored the next 5 points for the good-guys (that's us!) - starting at 17-13 (nice block); a tip at 18-14; another block with an assist by Kelli Stewart at 19-14; and then another booming kill at 20-14. All that was needed after that was for Jamie Kaleh to Ace the next Bulldog's serve and for OHR Ashlynn Newman to kill a shot onto the right side of Hebron's court at 22-14. After calling their second time out, Hebron tried to rally the troops and mount a charge, but it turned out to be "too little - too late" and fell short when Hannah Fort ended the game at 25-18 with a kill.

In set 2 - Magnolia came out playing aggressively and started 'raising the bar' while Hebron responded to the challenge, and claimed an early 5-2 advantage and held onto the lead by 3 midway through the game at 12-9, before both Hannah Fort and Kelli Stewart began blasting away and dominating both sides of the net. After a series of errors, Hebron called a time out trailing at 14-19 only to have a Michele Williams' Boom Boom slam greet them when they returned to the court at 20-14; and once a Meagan Little backrow missle shocked 'em at 21-14 .... well, let's just say "the DAWGS were pretty much ruling-the-roost" from this point forward.... This file picks up around this time:
