Dawgs Jump On Vikes in Set 1

Holy frijole! The Lady Bulldogs throttled up their offensive machine in Set 1 tonight to the delight of the fans and may have given all an advanced showing of what a classic battle of offensive and defensive teams would look like. Both teams played well enough to look as though they are finishing their seasons instead of opening their schedules! Dulles showed their team speed, gutsy playing, and opportunistic attacks while Magnolia kept pouring it on with a barrage of impressive weaponry that seemed to be attacking the quick footed VIKES from every angle, and a display of some timely DAWGIE defensive maneuvers of their own.

Magnolia's MB Hannah Fort battled the front line all night long finishing with 15 Kills.

Early in set 1, things started out pretty tight with both teams obviously excited about opening their seasons and quickly tied themselves up at 3-3 before the Dulles Lady Vikings poked ahead by 4 point spread at 7-3; mostly behind some solid defensive play - only to have a kill by Alicia Shaffer (and a few Viking errors of their own) ignite the flames of what would be a premonition of things to come in this exciting match.

The surging DAWGS were getting close to getting back in championship form and on their feet by pulling this first set even when Lady Bulldog MB Hannah Fort took over and lit things up with a block at 10-10; a kill at 11-11; a dink to recapture the momentum at 12-13; then a timely service ace to inch the DAWGS in front at 14-13. All American MB Michele Williams raised the bar with a kill at 15-14 and a monster block at 16-14, then blew a shot in the corner to put the DAWGS in front by 3 at 18-15. Again, all three Lady Bulldogs ganged up with a Shaffer kill at 19-17, Hannah Fort kill at 20-17, a 'classic' Michele Williams bullet for a kill from the DAWGS backcourt at 21-17, a Shaffer dink at 22-17, another Hannah Fort block at 23-18, Shaffer shot off the defenders' hands at 24-20.... and an error for a coast in -for the win at 25-20.

What a combination as the 3 Amigas went to work again, attacking Dulles from every angle!
