The YO YO Bro's were in the HAUS!!
The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs swept the Oak Ridge Lady War Eagles in a charged DAWG House Friday night in 3 quick sets (25-6, 25-13, and 25-18) improving their overall record to 23-7 and remaining undefeated in District 15-5A (3-0) play. The DAWGS also extrended their home win streak record to 20 straight and have not lost a set yet to a district opponent (9-0). The DAWGS piled on the War Eagles by grounding the Lady Eagles with their serving and overpowering their mistake-prone opponent on both sides of the net. It also didn't hurt, that Coach J's strategy of "first to five" worked to perfection as the Lady Eagles would not recover from the quick start(s) once the DAWGS blew out of the starting gate!Setter Hannah Davies feedin' the 'Big DAWG' Michele Williams.
Case in point: set 1.... Before Oak Ridge knew it they were were down 11-1 behind a slew of Alicia Shaffer jump serves that kept them in a defensive posture for the rest of the game and the rest of the night. Alicia had 11 ace serves for the evening, but there were another dozen or so serves that forced the Lady Eagles to 'free ball' it back to the hungry and appreciative Lady Bulldogs who turned many into points. Helping Shaffer out, Michele 'Boom Boom' (Out Go the Lights) Williams patrolled the net with (a leading) 11 kills for the evening ... scoring 5 points in the first 13-2 run. The DAWGS kept the pressure up out-distancing the wounded Lady Eagles 12 to 3 for the rest of the first set, which was closed (fittingly) by a couple of deadly Shaffer aces ... and shocking their visiting opponent and fans with a 25-6 shellacking!

The second set was almost a carbon copy of the first, as the DAWGS jumped out to a 13-2 lead and then went unchallenged the rest of the way, while cruising to a 25-13 victory. Junior OH Kelli Stewart blasted a scalding kill shot off a scurrying War Eagle defender's back (who had turned away to avoid being slammed in the front) that had to leave a welt (or possibly a scar) at 2-1... and more importantly, leaving the impression that there was not going to be an easy way out of the DAWG House! Again, the door was opened for Alicia Shaffer to put them on their back claws again with a few more ace serves at 4-1, 6-1, and at 8-1. Sandwiched between all this - Michele Williams and Kelli Stewart teamed up for an assist block at 7-1; then Williams laid a Happy Birthday "Slamma Hamma" missle at their feet at 9-1 before Kelli Stewart knocked a point off Oak Ridge's hands at 10-2; which, ...of course, prompted Michele to do the same at 12-2. The second half of the scoring in this second set was carried by Oak Ridge miscues and a mixture of DAWG Power: Meagan Little (Happy Birthday kill at 15-4, a shot off the defenders' hands at 24-13... 6 kills for the night); Hannah Fort (shot off the hands at 17-9 and again, at 19-9... 5 kills and 1 block assist for the evening); Alicia Shaffer (shot down the line at 18-9, then a cross court bullet at 20-10 ... 4 kills, 1 block assist, and 7 digs to compliment her outstanding 'all-around' performance; Jamie Kaleh (another patented, lightning bolt/thunder) kill shot closing the second set at 25-13 ... 5 kills and 7 digs for the night; and of course another evening of great ball movement from Magnolia's passers and setters. During the evening, junior Hannah Davies dished out 13 assists while shoveling 4 digs; a diving Brittany Wheaton came up with 10 digs; and Paige Holland rounded the distribution out with 11 assists and 4 digs of her own; and Kati Michael notched a couple of assists.

Set 3 and again, the DAWGS jumped on top to lead at 15-3 before they took their paws off the accelerator, perhaps taking it a little too easy, and mesmerizing themselves into taking a DAWGIE nap! Alicia Shaffer began the set, as she had in the two previous ones, with her 'unreturnable' ace serving at 2-0, 3-0, and 4-0; while Jamie Kaleh jumped in with kills at 6-1 and 12-3 before the DAWGS began to slide into a frozen funk. Coach J had substituted some players to give the starters a rest, to give the ladies additional playing experience, (and to keep from blowing the DAWG House roof off), but things went sour while the DAWGS were napping. When they awoke, they found the Lady Eagles had outscored the Lady Bulldogs 14-2 and had tied the third set at 17-17. The sleeping DAWGS immediately regained their focus and turned it around with some fresh legs and promptly scored 8 points to the Lady Eagles' 1 at crunch time, and burying the birds with a match final score of 25-18. Point...Set...Match!We're talkin' BULLDOG POWER here, folks!!!
