Lady Bulldogs JV Sweep Lady Cavaliers

The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs JV volleyball team swept the College Park Lady Cavaliers in their best two out of three sets by the scores of: 25-9 in set #1 and 25-23 in set #2. The Bullpups continued to do what they do best - that is: control the net and play good defense, and they continue to reap the rewards by being undefeated and leading the district in the standings. The combination of good serving and kills from Jamie Paulson; Meagan Little's front court play and Lady Bulldog overall teamwork was too much for the Lady Cavaliers to handle and again meant short and exciting work for the DAWGS.

In set #1, OH Jamie Paulson lit up the service line with serving aces at 3-0 and 4-0 and again at 7-0 and 9-0 before she turned things over to MB Meagan Little. Sandwiched between this were 2 Katie Kreft kills (at 6-0, and a shot off the Lady Cavaliers' hands at 10-1), but it was Meagan's string of points at 11-1, 13-3, 14-3, 16-4 and 17-4 that really iced 'em, and silenced College Park's team and crowd. Again, Lady Bullpup Jamie Paulson took over and closed the Cadavers out with a cross-court shot at 21-6, a solo block at 24-7, and a final kill off the defenders' hands at 25-9. As they would say (with a Jamaican accent), "Truly solid, mon...."

The Lady Cavaliers were not about to go down in the second match, and especially easily! The ladies from the Woodlands suburb, picked up their play and made a tight, well-fought game out of the match. The set was close as OHR Michelle Larson opened the PUPS scoring with a dink at 1-0, followed by an Angela Yzaguirre patented, jump-serve ace at 2-0; a Breann Matula kill off the Cavaliers' arms at 4-2 and a MB Meagan Little' flurry of points at 5-3, 7-3 and 10-8.... and yet, College Park would still not go away - much less hang tight to the "Lead DAWGS" by 2 points! MB Breann Matula's block at 11-8 opened the lead to 3 temporarily, before College Park went on an impressive 12-3 run and appeared to be in control at 20-14. The PUPS started their comeback with a kill from OH Katie Kreft at 20-15; a couple of Cavalier errors and block by MB Meagan Little later, put the score at 18-20 and things started getting hectic. The officiating was getting out of hand (and out of control) as evidenced by a perfect pancake dig from Jamie Paulson that resulted in a Magnolia point (15 seconds later), but was nullified and missed in the call - until a lengthy discussion called for by the coaching staffs, the "lines officials" and the other two hundred observant spectators who witnessed the play. It was ruled as a "play-over" and it seemed as though every point from that play forward was disputable and overruled by either 'over-emotional' side. What a mess and frenzied situation to be in! Irregardless, the PUPS pushed forward and claimed the lead at 22-21 behind a Michelle Larson kill and when Meagan Little slammed one home at 23-22 and an error by College Park put the set and match on the fence at 24-22, the Cavaliers called their last time out in an effort to turn the momentum tide their way. It was a good try. Unsuccessful, but a good try....BULLPUPS nipped 'em at 25-23 and got the heck out of Dodge!

The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs volleyball team (26-7, 7-0) swept the College Park Lady Cavaliers in three sets by the scores of: 25-7, 27-25, 25-14 on a (Freaky) Friday, October 13th night and maintained sole possesion of the lead in District 15-5A. It was a tougher win than expected, not necessarily because the DAWGS may have possibly played better, but more so that the Lady Cavaliers have improved quite a bit since these 2 teams last met. College Park did what the last 6 teams couldn't: namely, come back from a 5 point defecit (at 12-17) near the end of a set (2) to force extra play (before falling at 25-27). The home court there at the beautiful, new College Park campus was loud and emotionally charged as their team threatened the DAWGS pride and 'streak-record', but there was still NO WAY the Lady Bulldogs were going to leave there without this district victory!

So the Lady Bulldogs played on...and continued their streak of 6 straight district sweeps in a row and 9 out of the last 10. This win is also their 20th sweep of the season and the DAWGS have won 12 matches in a row. This audio file is a brief recap of the Lady Bulldog scoring at the end of the match against College Park:

Here we join our super-heros in Set #3 with the DAWGS fighting off a much improved and pesky College Park squad - with the score settling in at 20-11. Magnolia started this set off with a Hannah Fort ace serve at 2-0 and Kristyn Bergen scored a couple of points with a hit off the Cavaliers' hands at 3-1 and a nice cross court kill at 6-2. Michele Williams chipped in a nice kill at 7-2; OHL Alicia Shaffer added a kill at 13-5 and MB Hannah Fort and OHR Kelli Stewart worked together for an assist block at 15-7, then Hannah finessed a little dink shot at 17-9 and Kelli hammered one at 19-10 for the good guys!

This was a great 'comeback set-win' for the DAWGS after a close, hard fought battle about 30 minutes prior and it really slammed the door on College Park's hopes this wild night of any possible upset. The Lady Cavaliers' volleyball program is in it's early stages and you can just tell they will be a good program in the future.

DAWGS Use Killer Instinct to Close Cavaliers Out

What an exciting set this one turned out to be. Magnolia jumped out to an early lead at 4-3 when Michele Williams dropped a bomb into the middle of the court and followed up with a kill shot from the OHR position at 5-4. The DAWGS continued to fire away with an array of shots, and threatened to open the match wide with a 5 point spread at 17-12 when College Park called a timeout and came back with a combination of good play, Lady Bulldog' errors, questionable officiating, and a definite swing in momentum. The Lady Cavaliers' defense stiffened up somewhat and pulled the game even and for a few plays even held a slight 3 point lead as the game got close to ending. But the DAWGS maintained their composure and came back with pressure points from OH Alicia Shaffer, MB Michele Williams, and a killer Hannah Hustle Glide shot down the right line of the court for an exciting win at 27-25.

DAWGS Pile On Lady Cavaliers in Set #1

The Lady Bulldogs were in charge early in the match and in this first set from the beginning. Magnolia opened the scoring behind a show of force with a Michele 'Boom Boom' Wiliams Glide kill shot at 2-1 then another salvo at 3-2 with a kill from the OHL position that started the Lady Cavaliers running for cover. When Jamie Kaleh put a kill down at 5-2 and a couple of OH Alicia Shaffer kills and assist block later, the Magnolia Lady Bulldogs were in charge with an 8 point lead at 12-4 and College Park was in a quandry. . The DAWGS were not slacking up a bit though, and were still just getting their legs warmed up, and they took off scampering on a 6 to 1 run to lead at 18-5 when this audio picks up....

Dawgs Take 5th District Sweep in a Row vs Conroe

going to go - all night long! Caitlin had 18 assists against the Lady Tigers.

Let there be no question, no doubt about who's the Queen of the Mound or the Lead DAWG in this District hunt.....! The 13th ranked Lady Bulldogs (25-7, 6-0) made up for their lackluster appearance in Conroe against these Lady Tigers 18 days ago, by skunking, crushing, slamming, sweeping, or whatever you want to call it..... in 3 sets - for their 5th District sweep in a row, and 19th sweep overall this season. The ladies are now also on an 11 match winning streak. This kind of success doesn't just happen. The ladies have worked very hard for it and tonight was not an exception.

In this 3rd and final set, the DAWGS led from the start at 2-0 then blew things wide open when they went ahead at 12-7 with a big boomer from Kelli Stewart which sparked her team mates to jam the Tigers with 5 more straight points and have them firmly in their death grip at 17-7. After a Hannah Fort kill at 18-8, Coach J "let the dawgs out" and immediately Mandi Gray, Jamie Kaleh, Ashlynn Newman, and Kati Michael came onto the court ready to tear into some Tiger meat! They wasted little time as Mandi had a kill at 21-10, Jamie at 23-11, and a final assist from Kati Michael put the game behind them at 25-16; bragging rights for the next year; a firm hold on the lead in District 15-5A; and a boost of confidence as the ladies gear up and get ready to go to college.......College Park that is..........this Freaky Friday night, the 13th. Once again, we need our Bulldog family of fans to continue supporting the ladies as they march towards the state playoffs! We'll see you there!

In other District 15-5A action tonight: The Woodlands swept Oak Ridge in 3 (25-19, 25-19, 25-23) behind The Woodlands' (17-12, 5-1) — Kristen Martell 11 kills, and Oak Ridge's (13-13, 3-3) — Nicole Bowden had 12.

Set #2 was ALL DAWG!! Michele Williams opened the bidding at 4-1 with a 'Jackie Chan' kung fu - type move with a great left-handed, 'reactionary' return of a block,...err...pass,...kill, whatever - that put a good volley to rest on Conroe's side of the net. Michele followed it up with another kill at 5-2 as Magnolia began separating themselves from the anemeic Tigers by a least 6 points from then on. The Lady Bulldogs (Fab Four) ganged up on them behind successful GLIDE kill shots on the right side, from both MB Hannah Fort and MB Michele Williams, a service ace and kill from OH Alicia Shaffer, and a missle from OH Jamie Kaleh.

The ladies played well defensively, as well. Alicia Shaffer led Magnolia with 16 digs, Kristyn Bergen had 8 with Hannah Davies had 7; Michele Williams and Caitlin Holland had 4 apiece; followed by 3 from Jamie Kaleh and singles from Kelli Stewart, Mandi Gray and Kati Michael. Michele Williams had 1 solo and 1 assist block; Hannah Fort and Kristen Bergen had 1 apiece, and Kelli Stewart finished the evening with 1 assist block.

Alicia Shaffer put the Lady Bulldogs up by 7 with a great cross court shot at 17-10; then Hannah Fort slammed one down at 18-10; Kelli Stewart dinked a point at 19-10 then followed it up (after a Caitlin Holland ace serve at 20-10) with a cross court rocket at 21-10; and the ladies cruised to victory number 2 with the score: 25-12. Probably the most impressive win against Conroe to date....but, it still doesn't seem like it's enough!

DAWGS Chew Up Conroe in First Set

The Lady Bulldogs lit into the Conroe Lady Tigers tonight, chewing them up and sweeping what was left - out of the DAWG House, in 3 straight sets (25-18, 25-12, and 25-16). The height-challenged, Lady Tigers gave it their best effort, but were no match for their hosts who at will, unleashed a barrage of kills and blocks from all over the court.


Magnolia again, was led by MB Michele Williams' 13 kills, followed by MB Hannah Fort's 9 kills, OH Alicia Shaffer's 7 kills, OH Jamie Kaleh's 6, then OH Kelli Stewart at 4 and OH Kristyn Bergen at 3. Mandi Gray was credited with a big kill near the end of the match.

back into her work! Michele knocks the air out of the ball....and her opponents!

The Lady Bulldogs maintained a slight edge in the beginning of the first set jumping to a 8-7 lead behind Michele Williams' 3 kills, Jamie Kaleh's hammer at 5-3, and a Hannah Fort 'Happy Birthday' slamma jamma at 6-3. But the DAWGS began to make their move when Alicia Shaffer's dink put them up by 2 at 9-7 and Hannah Fort blasted 3 straight kills putting the 'good guys' (gals) up by 4 at 13-9. Magnolia forged ahead to lead by 5 at 17-12; by 6 at 18-12; by 7 at 20-13, and 8 at 22-14; and a couple of mercy points later- Michele Williams ended it, as she started, with a blast at 25-18. Set number 1 was in the books and the Conroe Lady Tigers were already backpedaling...

The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs JV ripped into the Lady Tigerettes from Conroe tonight enroute to another sweep against Conroe who may have been hoping that this second time around, was going to be their charm. Well, it wasn't, and it just goes to show that underestimating the power of the DAWG and the (un)friendly confines of the DAWG House are going to be a lot to overcome - even if you were playing flawless volleyball. The Bullpups took care of things quickly with a 25-17 thrashing in Set #1 and a good old fashioned 'skining' in Set #2, 25-13 .... without leaving a scrap for the vultures.

The PUPS began to pull away from Conroe at 12-11 thanks to a MB Meagan Little block and a quick OH Katie Kreft kill following up at 13-11. From there Magnolia took control of the game forcing errors against the scrappy Tigerettes who tried to raise the level of their game, but the PUPS were not about to lighten up. A OH Jamie Paulson kill at 17-13 and a serving ace at 20-14 kept Magnolia as the lead dog in this hunt; until Meagan Little closed it out with a dink at 25-17. The (1-4) Conroe JV's evening was half over and 3/4 of the way over for the season, with these Lady Bulldogs!

In the second Set, the PUPS came out with a vengance and jumped to an 11-1 lead behind a combination of good plays from the Magnolia Lady Bulldogs. OH Jamie Paulson had an ace at 3-0; Angela Yzaguirre put a nice kill down at the back of the Tigerettes' court at 4-1; DS Lynnsay Manning finessed a couple of aces in from the serving line at 6-1 and 7-1; MB Meagan Little blocked a Tiger attack attempt at 9-1 then had a couple of kills, after OH Michelle Larson's shot at 10-1; to put the ladies in front at 13-2. Magnolia worked the one-sided shellacking up to a 23-6 advantage, thanks to some unforced errors from their generous visitors, and a kill from OH Katie Kreft before Coach Bialas called the big DAWGS off and put some of the hired hands to work. The PUPS coasted allowing 7 unanswered points, before Breann Matula slammed one home at 24-14 and a serving ace ended the match 25-13 - fully rendering the Tigerettes clawless and toothless - humbled and defenseless and barely enough in the tank to make it back home. YA'LL COME BACK NOW....YA' HEAR?


Again the JV has swept Conroe and continue their undefeated march through District 15-5A. Next up: at College Park 5 PM Freaky Friday, October 13th!! Be there!!!
