DAWGS Sweep Lady Eagles Out of the House!!

The YO YO Bro's were in the HAUS!!

The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs swept the Oak Ridge Lady War Eagles in a charged DAWG House Friday night in 3 quick sets (25-6, 25-13, and 25-18) improving their overall record to 23-7 and remaining undefeated in District 15-5A (3-0) play. The DAWGS also extrended their home win streak record to 20 straight and have not lost a set yet to a district opponent (9-0). The DAWGS piled on the War Eagles by grounding the Lady Eagles with their serving and overpowering their mistake-prone opponent on both sides of the net. It also didn't hurt, that Coach J's strategy of "first to five" worked to perfection as the Lady Eagles would not recover from the quick start(s) once the DAWGS blew out of the starting gate!

Setter Hannah Davies feedin' the 'Big DAWG' Michele Williams.

Case in point: set 1.... Before Oak Ridge knew it they were were down 11-1 behind a slew of Alicia Shaffer jump serves that kept them in a defensive posture for the rest of the game and the rest of the night. Alicia had 11 ace serves for the evening, but there were another dozen or so serves that forced the Lady Eagles to 'free ball' it back to the hungry and appreciative Lady Bulldogs who turned many into points. Helping Shaffer out, Michele 'Boom Boom' (Out Go the Lights) Williams patrolled the net with (a leading) 11 kills for the evening ... scoring 5 points in the first 13-2 run. The DAWGS kept the pressure up out-distancing the wounded Lady Eagles 12 to 3 for the rest of the first set, which was closed (fittingly) by a couple of deadly Shaffer aces ... and shocking their visiting opponent and fans with a 25-6 shellacking!

Lady Bulldog MB Hannah Fort putting the brakes on this attack,

while Alicia Shaffer (10) is looking for any Lady Eagle's scraps!

The second set was almost a carbon copy of the first, as the DAWGS jumped out to a 13-2 lead and then went unchallenged the rest of the way, while cruising to a 25-13 victory. Junior OH Kelli Stewart blasted a scalding kill shot off a scurrying War Eagle defender's back (who had turned away to avoid being slammed in the front) that had to leave a welt (or possibly a scar) at 2-1... and more importantly, leaving the impression that there was not going to be an easy way out of the DAWG House! Again, the door was opened for Alicia Shaffer to put them on their back claws again with a few more ace serves at 4-1, 6-1, and at 8-1. Sandwiched between all this - Michele Williams and Kelli Stewart teamed up for an assist block at 7-1; then Williams laid a Happy Birthday "Slamma Hamma" missle at their feet at 9-1 before Kelli Stewart knocked a point off Oak Ridge's hands at 10-2; which, ...of course, prompted Michele to do the same at 12-2. The second half of the scoring in this second set was carried by Oak Ridge miscues and a mixture of DAWG Power: Meagan Little (Happy Birthday kill at 15-4, a shot off the defenders' hands at 24-13... 6 kills for the night); Hannah Fort (shot off the hands at 17-9 and again, at 19-9... 5 kills and 1 block assist for the evening); Alicia Shaffer (shot down the line at 18-9, then a cross court bullet at 20-10 ... 4 kills, 1 block assist, and 7 digs to compliment her outstanding 'all-around' performance; Jamie Kaleh (another patented, lightning bolt/thunder) kill shot closing the second set at 25-13 ... 5 kills and 7 digs for the night; and of course another evening of great ball movement from Magnolia's passers and setters. During the evening, junior Hannah Davies dished out 13 assists while shoveling 4 digs; a diving Brittany Wheaton came up with 10 digs; and Paige Holland rounded the distribution out with 11 assists and 4 digs of her own; and Kati Michael notched a couple of assists.

Meagan Little and Hannah Fort clipping the Lady Eagles' wings here!

Set 3 and again, the DAWGS jumped on top to lead at 15-3 before they took their paws off the accelerator, perhaps taking it a little too easy, and mesmerizing themselves into taking a DAWGIE nap! Alicia Shaffer began the set, as she had in the two previous ones, with her 'unreturnable' ace serving at 2-0, 3-0, and 4-0; while Jamie Kaleh jumped in with kills at 6-1 and 12-3 before the DAWGS began to slide into a frozen funk. Coach J had substituted some players to give the starters a rest, to give the ladies additional playing experience, (and to keep from blowing the DAWG House roof off), but things went sour while the DAWGS were napping. When they awoke, they found the Lady Eagles had outscored the Lady Bulldogs 14-2 and had tied the third set at 17-17. The sleeping DAWGS immediately regained their focus and turned it around with some fresh legs and promptly scored 8 points to the Lady Eagles' 1 at crunch time, and burying the birds with a match final score of 25-18. Point...Set...Match!

DAWGS Finish Off Cavs in a Sweep

The DAWGS continued their feeding frenzy in this third set - chewing up the Lady Cavs while jumping out to a 11-3 lead. Kelli Stewart started it out at 1-0 with a shot down the left line; then Jamie Kaleh blasted one off the Cavs' hands at 2-2; then Stewart again with an ace serve at 4-2; a couple of Boom Boom Williams' "Richter-like" shockers at 6-2 and down the line at 7-2; then a massive, 'DAWGIE - pile' of a block at the middle of the net by seemingly the whole team; and then...capping the earned scoring spree off at 10-3 came from high flyin' outside hitter Jamie Kalehs' best kill shot of the night that cleared the net coming straight down over the Cavs and well within the 10' line. That one got the players, coaches and Lady Bulldog howling fans jumping right out of their seats and high five-ing each other while forcing the Cavs to re-group and burn an early time out!!

OH Jamie Kaleh (7) rocked the house leaving Alicia Shaffer

(and the Bulldog fans) breathless with her shot at 10-3.

The Lady Bulldogs kept the edge at 17-9 behind great TEAM play and some timely blasts by the usual suspects: Boom Boom Williams, Kelli Stewart, Jamie Kaleh, and Hannah Fort. The lethal combination continued to put the pressure on without letting up and the Lady Cavs had no answers. The Lady Bulldogs blew College Park out of their own gym, silencing the partisan home crowd with a 10 point lead at 21-11...then coasted to a satisfying 7 point victory and a clean sweep of a very worthy opponent. Tonight the DAWGS would howl at the big, bright, full moon ... they'd earned it!

GO LADY BULLDOGS!!!

DAWGS Rule Lady Cavaliers

The Lady Bulldogs led the scoring in this entire second set behind a barrage of firepower and great defense. The ladies were clicking like a DREAM TEAM. Jamie Kaleh had 4 of her 10 kills in this one and finished the evening as the kill leader along with her 2 block assists, 12 digs and 3 aces. Michele Williams closely followed with 8 kills and 5 block assists; Hannah Fort with 4 kills and 1 solo block with 2 block assists; Kelli Stewart had 5 kills, 1 block assist and 3 aces. Hannah Davies was the assist leader tonight with 18 followed closely by Paige Holland who had 13. Davies also had 9 digs and 1 ace. Brittany Wheaton had 10 digs, as did Alicia Shaffer who also had 2 kills and 2 block assists to round out her evening. Meagan Little had 2 kills and 2 block assists with Ashlynn Newman closing out with 1 kill and 1 block assist.

Lady Bulldogs Alicia Shaffer (10), Kelli Stewart (8), and Hannah Fort (9)

with a brief moment to relax, but were ready to go when the whistle blew.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped ahead at 5-2 behind a Hannah Davies ace serve and Michele Williams' tip; then upped their margin to 5 at 10-5 with a couple of Jamie Kaleh points (block and kill) and an Alicia Shaffer shot off the Cavaliers' hands; maintained it at 15-10 with a Kelli Stewart kill at 11-7, a 'Boom Boom' kill in the middle at 13-8, and combo block by both of the ladies at 14-8; then doubled it at 20-10 behind a combo of Jamie Kaleh points (kills at 17-10, and 19-10) with a Kaleh/Williams block assist at 18-10 coupled with a Williams' block at 20-10; and began rocketing by College Park at 24-11 when this file takes over:

DAWGS Raise the Bar Against Lady Cavaliers

It had all the elements needed for a good old-fashioned, district, barn-burner of a match: 2 good talented and hungry teams; a reverberating gym packed with intense energy; a gathering of close calls that eventually made reasoning irrationable; loud, obnoxious, opinioniated fans; all topped off with a full moon shining down on College Park High School's gymnasium. The Lady Cavaliers were lobbying for an upset, and were giving it all they had - counting on their preparation and the "whoever makes the fewest mistakes...wins!" theory to possibly slip by the Lady Bulldogs, but did not realize the depth the DAWGS emotional and physical tanks. The DAWGS were busy, undaunted and were working on the other side of the net, raising their level of play, coming after them...and they weren't holding back a bit...

Coaches J (r) and K (l) had the ladies prepared for tonight's district win.

In the first set the DAWGS didn't relinquish the lead until three quarters of the way in a see-saw battle that kept things close from the beginning. The Lady Bulldogs jumped ahead by 2 behind a Kelli Stewart kill at 2-0 and when Jamie Kaleh lit them up with 2 kills and an ace serve, a little later - they found themselves in an advantageous comfort zone of 4 points at 10-6. The Lady Cavs came back with 5 unanswered points taking the lead for the first time at 11-10, but Hannah Fort quickly had a couple of kills at 12-11 and 13-12 to keep things tight with the DAWGS leading; Michele Williams chipped in kills at 15-14, an awesome block assist with Meagan Little at 16-14, and a mighty swat at 17-16; and it was beginning to look like it was going to be a nail-biter as neither team was going to back away. A Jamie Kaleh shot at 18-17 and a Meagan Little kill at 19-18 kept the DAWGS out front; but 2 subsequent errors had College Park looking like they were right where they needed to be with a lead near 'closing' time...20 to 19. But the experienced and talent laden Lady Bulldogs dug deeper like they have for years and started pulling away at crunch time and we were able to get the end of this first set with this audio file:

DAWGS Enter District Play vs Conroe

Hannah Davies (2) and Michele Williams (3) had a busy and

productive evening against district rival foe: the Conroe Lady Tigers.

The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs opened their 2007 District play in fine fashion Friday night September 21st, against a fiesty Lady Tiger squad, sweeping Conroe is 3 overpowering sets (25-13, 25-19, and 25-15). The DAWGS rode the shoulders of their All American middle hitter and blocker Michele 'Boom Boom' Williams who blasted Magnolia's northern neighbor rival for 16 Kills and 2 block assists and with Jamie Kaleh who contributed 10 kills of her own, along with 1 block assist and her 15 digs. As always, the supporting cast made the difference with Hannah Fort's 6 kills, 1 solo and 1 block assist; Alicia Shaffer's 5 kills, 1 block assist, 11 digs and 4 ace serves; Kelli Stewart's 3 kills, 1 solo and 1 block assist; Meagan Little's 2 kills; Ashlynn Newman's 1 kill; Brittany Wheaton's 17 digs; Hannah Davies' 22 assists and 3 ace serves, and Paige Holland's 14 assists. Spreading the wealth around with this type of play will make it tougher for any opponent to outgun the DAWGS...

Boom Boom Williams has added another unstoppable

kill shot to her arsenal. It's called the Texas Sidewinder!

The only time the Lady Bulldogs trailed in the first set was at the first point when Conroe blocked a kill attempt, but Magnolia quickly tied things up behind some solid defense and a shot off the Lady Tigers' paws by Michele Williams at 3-1; then a couple of non-returnable serves from Alicia Shaffer to put the score at 5-1; a kill by Jamie Kaleh at 6-2; and another hit off the defenders' hands at 8-2 put the DAWGS in the driver's seat for the evening! The DAWGS stretched the lead to 7 at 15-8 behind Kaleh's and Hannah Fort's hitting and then blew the set wide open outscoring the Lady Tigers 10 to 5 with a pair of Williams' kills and block points at 22-9 and a couple more Shaffer ace serves to widen the score at 24-9; then generously allowed Conroe to creep in 4 more points before Boom Boom slammed a patented shot to the floor at the top of her glide and snatched the last breath from the Lady Tigers at 25-13.

Lady Bulldog setter Paige Holland setting to ball for one of her 14 assists.

Set 2 started out the same (DAWGS lose first point and jump ahead by 3 behind 2 Williams' points at 4-1) but a series of miscues kept this one from getting totally out of control. The Lady Tigers were able to tie the score at 6-6, 8-8, and 9-9 and keep close to Magnolia, but the experience and the depth and power of the front line along with some great passing and setting became more apparent as the DAWGS again stretched ahead by 5 at 18-13. A (timely) time out by Conroe brought the Lady Tigers' mojo back and closed the score to 2 at 21-19, but passing errors and a Williams' bomb at 23-19, and a (game ending) serve receive error poisoned any Lady Tiger hopes of clipping the DAWGS at the wire (or even another point in the game for the matter) ... set 2 in the books 25-19.

Meagan Little and Michele Williams controlled the right side against Conroe.

In the third set, Magnolia never relinquished the lead starting with a Boom Boom Glide at 1 -0; a Jamie Kaleh shot off the Tigers' paws at 3-1; another Williams' blast at 5-2; then another Kaleh kill at 6-4; an Alicia Shaffer shot and a Hannah Fort double-shot put the game at 8-4 and an emergency 911 call for some one to send an early time out for Conroe. When time was called back in, Magnolia outscored Conroe 6 to 1 putting the score 14-5 and pretty much in the position for Coach J to begin substituting and shuffling players in and out for the remainder of this one. Both teams played evenly for the rest of the set with a slight 11-10 edge going to the DAWGS making the sweep complete in 3 ... and this final score of 25-15.

The Lady Bulldogs kept the pressure on while winning their district opener.

The next match secheduled for the Lady Bulldogs is Tuesday evening at College Park and will be a great district matchup! Lets get as many DAWGIE NATION fans as we can to help support the team as they march through their district schedule!!

You gotta love the DAWGIE NATION fans!!

DAWGS Finish Off Tigers

Lady Bulldogs Kelli Stewart and Michele Williams convinced

the Lady Tigers that "it just wasn't going to happen" tonight.

In the third set, the Lady Tigers tried to turn it up a notch or two but were met at the net with a wall of pure DAWG Power!! Michele 'Boom Boom' Williams sliced and diced her way in this deciding set with 4 of her 12 kills for the evening with an assist block while Hannah Fort assisted on 5 blocks and taking care of things with a solo block at 13-7 to compliment her 7 kills. Hitter and All Around Jamie Kaleh had another productive evening with 9 kills, 1 block assist, 2 Aces, and 8 digs; followed by Meagan Little's 6 kills and 2 block assists and Alicia Shaffer's 5 kills, 3 aces and 11 digs; along with Kelli Stewart's 2 kills, 1 block assist and 1 ace serve - to round out the even scoring and to keep Klein Collins guessing where the ball was going to come from next! The setters were busy tonight as well. Hannah Davies finished the evening with 16 assists and 4 aces, while Paige Holland led the way with 18 assists. Kati Michael finished with 2. In addition to Kaleh's and Shaffer's digs, libero Brittany Wheaton handled 8 digs for the evening. This audio file picks up some late action with the DAWGS in the lead at 21-14...

The DAWGS turned the Lady Tigers' world upside down with a clean sweep tonight.

The Dawgs went after the Klein Collins Lady Tigers in the first set handling their out-manned opponents in a 25-12 trouncing, behind a solid, aggressive attack and an overpowering defense. The Lady Bulldogs quickly established the pecking order in the first set behind a flurry of Lady Bulldog Jamie Kaleh attacks to jump out front 7-3 without ever having to look back. From there, a lethal combination of kills from MB Hannah Fort and Kaleh along with a slew of jump serves caused all sorts of problems for the Lady Tigers and helped the DAWGS stretch their lead to 12 at 22-10, until all that was needed to "ice" this game was a tip from junior Meagan Little at 25-12. Handled with the precision of a micro-surgeon...

Magnolia wasn't any easier on them in the second set either as the DAWGS jumped ahead by 7 points at 10-3 behind Michele 'Boom Boom' Williams' slamma hamma kills at 1-1 and 8-2, and mixed in with a couple of Alicia Shaffer ace serves at 2-1 and 3-1; followed up with a Jamie Kaleh "Happy Birthday" present at 5-1; a Kelli Stewart ace at 9-2; and a timely Meagan Little kill at 10-3. Again Hannah Fort scattered the Lady Tigers with her attacks and her blocking at 12-3 before Kelli Stewart thumped them at 17-7 and again at 19-8. DAWGS Too Strong For Tigers

Magnolia's Michele Williams had an All Star performance racking

up 15 kills and 4 assist blocks against the St. Agnes Lady Tigers.

The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs rode the momentum from Set 3 through this deciding set to finish off the St Agnes Lady Tigers 25-16. The DAWGS spread the wealth around in this one, led by Michele 'Boom Boom' Williams who dazzled them with her patented Glide for a kill at 3-2, at 4-3; then with a couple kills at 12-8 and a spectacular "Happy Birthday" hammer shot at 13-8; a classic Williams/Kelli Stewart combo block assist at 15-9; and a timely tip for a point at 17-11. Alicia Shaffer followed closely behind with a kill at 8-7 to keep the DAWGS out front in the middle of the set; then added a "Happy Birthday" tip of her own at 19-13 and a solid shot to the Lady Tiger's floor at 20-14. The supporting cast in this TEAM play added some firepower as well. OH Meagan Little topped off her (perhaps) finest match of the young season (9 kills, 1 solo block and 3 block assists) with a solid shot off the Lady Tigers' hands at 6-5; OH Ashlynn Newman had a kill at 5-4; MB Hannah Fort hit a bullet at 7-7; but more importantly - all at opportune times to keep a tight set from going the other way and the DAWGS from having to go to set 5 and have to outclaw the Lady Tigers in their own den. Here the audio file picks up at: 22-15 with DAWGS leading the way.

What could be said about these two angels that hasn't already been said...?

In addition to Williams' great performance, the DAWGS had a good balance of power. MB Hannah Fort finished with 12 kills and 3 Block Assists; Meagan Little had 9 Kills, 1 Solo and 3 Assist Blocks; Alicia Shaffer with 5 Kills and 1 block and 1 Assist Block, 18 Digs and 2 Ace Serves; followed by Kelli Stewart with 4 Kills and 3 Assist Blocks and 2 Aces; and with Jamie Kaleh with 6 Kills for the evening. Paige Holland had 24 assists and Hannah Davies had 22. Brittany Wheaton finished the evening with 18 Digs.

DAWGPower Rules Tigers' Den

The Lady Bulldogs were out to turn their fortunes around in this match (more specifically, in this set); turning the heat up with a more offensive display coupled with solid passing to recapture the momentum while serving notice that this night was going to the DAWGS. St Agnes led the second set from start to finish; briefly allowing Magnolia to only tie at 10-10 before tearing off to a 4 point lead and victory, but we digress...

Michele Williams started this one with a kill in the middle at 1-0, then again at 2-2; an assist block with Breann Matula at 3-2; then her 'one-of-a-kind' Glide kills at 17-8 and again at 19-12 to show her prowess and keep the DAWGS firmly in control. Hannah Fort chipped in a tip at 13-5 and then a hit off the Lady Tigers' outstretched arms at 15-7.... but this set was actually setting up to become junior OHR Meagan Little's 'coming out party'... Meagan slammed a missle to St Agnes' floor for a great kill at 4-3; then a great block at 5-3; then a shot off the hands at 7-3 and again at 9-3 that really outdistanced the DAWGS from the Lady Tigers and turned this one into the "perfect strategy".

DAWGS and Tigers Start to Tangle...

The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs had just mauled the St Agnes Lady Tigers (25-11) in the first set, but St Agnes has as many talented players, and as great of a proud tradition in the world of TAPPS ladies volleyball as any of the comparable top programs the DAWGS have faced this season. This one was not going to be easy - it will never be easy!

Lady Bulldog libero Brittany Wheaton 'turning

the tide' in Magnolia's favor with her passing.

St Agnes came out roaring in this set jumping out to a 7-1 lead behind a series of errors by the Lady Bulldogs who suddenly woke up and fought their way back to even the set up behind Michele Williams' kills at 2-7 and 4-8; Meagan Little blasting one off the Tigers' paws at 7-8; and Jamie Kaleh nailing one (of her 6 kills for the evening) at 8-10 before a couple of passing errors by the Tigers forced St Agnes to call a time out and regroup with the score tied at 10-10. And regroup they did.... The Lady Tigers opened up a 4 point spread at 18-14; and the DAWGS had to start closing the gap. This file picks up with the Lady Bulldogs trailing at 18-21:

DAWGS Control Brenhan Cubettes

The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs made short work of their former rival: Brenham Cubettes tonight in the DAWG House by sweeping their match 25-16, 25-20, and 25-16 in front of an appreciative and lively crowd. The DAWGS played a solid match utilizing an impressive, offensive warchest; a good TEAM defensive effort and crisp passing thrown in to control the flow and momentum of their (18-6) visitors.

From the beginning, the DAWGS seemed to have the Cubettes number.

In the first set, Alicia Shaffer opened the DAWGS' arsenal with one of her 5 aces for the evening jumping to a 2-1 lead.... then kept the Cubettes dancing on their heels in the backrow with her deadly serves. When Meagan Little pounded a point off Brenham's hands at 8-5; then Hannah Fort's kill at 10-6 and Shaffer's unleashed kill at 12-6 ... the DAWGS were off to the races and rolled out to a 20-12 lead behind a patented Michele 'Boom Boom' Williams' SLAMMA-HAMMA kill. The DAWGS held on to the lead to the finish, scoring 5 to Brenham's 4 points behind Shaffer's great kill shot down the left line at 24-15 and then topped off with a massive kill by Kelli Stewart that snuffed the life out of the Cubettes at 25-16. Brenham had to regroup when the teams switched sides and try to find a way to get at the Lady Bulldogs.

OHR Meagan Little and MB Michele Williams threw up a wall against Brenham.

Set 2 started with another strong start by the DAWGS with a Kelli Stewart kill at 2-1, then a couple of Alicia Shaffer service aces at 3-1 and 5-1, and followed with a 'Boom Boom' block at 6-1. Brenham came back with a couple of points when a 'High Flyin' Kelli Stewart hammered a shot in the middle at 7-3 and it looked like it was the start of a rout. But it was not to be. Actually, it was the Cubettes who went on a spree and scored 10 to Magnolia's 6 points to knot the set up at 13-13 and it was a timely Brittany Wheaton ace that awakened the napping DAWGS at 14-13 that breathed new life into the home team. A couple of Cubette passing miscues later, resulted in two Alicia Shaffer "Happy Birthday" kills at 15-15 and 16-15 and suddenly the DAWGS were out of their pen. An impressive Williams-Shaffer block assist at 17-15; a Williams' "Glide" at 18-16; a Jamie Kaleh kill and Hannah Fort tip opened the score up to 24-20.... and it took 3 tries for the winning point, but Alicia Shaffer got it - and Magnolia was 2 up and 2/3 of the way through this match with the score at 25-20. It was a good, come-from-behind victory for the DAWGS and a renewed sense of confidence for the ladies!

All Around Jamie Kaleh stretching for one of her

6 digs while team mate Alicia Shaffer looks on.

Set 3 began with Kelli Stewart dinking a kill to tie things up at 1-1... when Alicia Shaffer went to work dropping a couple of service aces on the court 'end-line' at 2-1 and 4-1. Michele Williams added another kill at 7-2; then again at 10-2 and the Cubettes had to be starting to think about the long ride home. Coach J opened the bench up for some valuable playing experience for some of the players and the Lady Bulldogs responded well. Breanne Matula had a perfectly placed tip at 13-6; Kelli Stewart punished them for 2 points at 16-6 and 17-7; and Michele Williams added a couple of kills to keep the DAWGS comfortably ahead by 10 at 20-10. All the DAWGS had to do was coast to the finish... and Hannah Fort helped close the Cubettes out with a block at 21-14; a kill at 23-16; and a 'classic' Fort/Stewart combo block puncuating a 25-16 statement that this match belonged to Magnolia!

The Lady Bulldogs strategizing as Coach J leads the way.

Unofficially, Alicia Shaffer led the DAWGS with 9 Kills, 9 Digs, 5 Aces, and a block assist; followed by Kelli Stewart's 8 Kills, 1 Block and 2 Block Assists; Jamie Kaleh's 6 Kills, 6 Digs, 1 Block Assist; Michele Wiliams' 6 Kills, 2 Blocks, 4 Block Assists; followed by Hannah Fort's 4 Kills, 1 Block Assist and Meagan Little's 3 Kills and 1 Block Assist. Hannah Davies finished with 17 Assists and 5 Digs; followed by Paige Holland's 12 Assists; and Kati Michael's 3 Assists. Brittany Wheaton had another spectacular evening with 9 digs.

Wow, the ladies are on an 18 match HOME win streak going back to last year and will be visiting a tough St Agnes team on Friday night tentatively scheduled for 6:30 PM! The ladies appreciate your continued support!

DAWGS Collar Pantherettes

Lady Bulldogs Alicia Shaffer (L) and Michele

Williams (R) putting this Pantherette attack on "ice".

The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs used an array of front row blocking schemes led by seniors Michele Williams and Hannah Fort along with an added spark by Junior front row specialist Meagan Little to sweep the pesky Klein Oak Lady Pantherettes by the scores of 25-14, 25-16, and 25-21 in the Dawg House on Friday night. It was the 17th straight win at home for the Lady Dawgs under the watchful eye of head coach Terri Johnson. Seniors Brittany Wheaton and Alicia Shaffer continued their back row defensive prowess and Wheaton again led the team with 5 aces with her (DNA-like) unique serving style to help the team stay a step ahead of their worthy opponent from neighboring district 16-5A. Senior Kati Michael, Junior Hannah Davies, and freshman Paige Holland took turns running the offense efficiently. It was Michael's first action in a few contests as she recovered from a mild ankle injury suffered last week. Senior Jamie Kaleh and junior Kelli Stewart had stellar contributions (as usual) to help the TEAM stay in control throughout the evening. Senior Lynnsay Manning had a very effective and quality night as well with her excellent back row defense to round out the player contributions along with Junior Ashlynn Newman. However, this night belonged to the senior middles as they both combined for perhaps their best dual effort of the season to thwart any hopes Klein Oak may have had that they could catch the DAWGS napping.

Game one started out with a familiar "Boom Boom" Williams glide and slam for the first point of the match and another killer service ace from Alicia Shaffer starting in the service rotation - to get the Ladies off to a 4-1 cushion. A double dip of Williams' kill shots and a Kelli Stewart ace serve let the Dawgs out and off to a 10-3 advantage. A couple of Alicia Shaffer kills sandwiched between a Brittany Wheaton ace serve and the Bulldogs were in total control at 16-8. The "pick your poison" combo kills by Fort, Stewart, Williams, and Kaleh upped the margin to 20-12. Another Williams' blast and a Meagan Little 'fascial' later had the DAWGS howling even more. A combo Williams/Little block was the icing on the cake as the DAWGS prevailed handily in the first set by the final score of 25-14. Great start this evening ....but the Magnolia defensive front wall was just getting warmed up in this one.

Lady Bulldogs (L to R) Jamie Kaleh, Hannah Fort and

Meagan Little with a little discussion between points.

Set two was a nip-and-tuck battle from the onset, as both teams traded point-for-point with Hannah Fort dominating the action early with a couple of attack points and a combination block with Shaffer by her side to knot the contest at 7-7. Kelli Stewart sent an untouched missile cross court for an 8-7 lead before Williams literally took over the net with 2 solo blocks and 2 assist blocks with Kaleh and Stewart respectively to push the lead to 12-9. Another "here we go again" combination of attack points by Stewart, Williams, Fort, and Kaleh as well as a "Happy Birthday" SLAM by Little gave the Dawgs a little breathing room at 17-12. Shaffer got into the act with a middle-set kill and setter Hannah Davies contributed a jump/skip ace serve to keep the Dawgs in control. Back to back Shaffer and Williams' attack points and game 2 ended with Magnolia pulling away at 25-16.

Game 3 found the Lady Dawgs trailing for the first 1/3 of the contest. Meagan Little and Kelli Stewart's attacking and serving kept the Bulldogs close at 8-8 until Brittany Wheaton's turn in service rotation came up. The senior sharp shooter served 6 successive times and this time Fort took over the net action with a kill, combo block with Shaffer, and then a solo block. Wheaton added her 2nd ace just for good measure during the service sequence to put Magnolia on top for the first time in this contest at 12-9. Stewart added an attack point to help the Lady Dawgs to a 14-12 advantage before it was Williams turn in rotation to patrol the net like it was her own personal territory. A solo block and two attack points by Williams and the lead was up to 3 at 18-15. The determined Pantherettes stormed back to close the gap to 1 at 18-17 before senior Hannah Fort took over in rotation on the front row once again. Fort contributed 2 kills to keep the Klein Oak at bay 20-18 before Wheaton opened her can of "Whupp 'Em" which was very reminiscent to Wednesday night's contest. "When you're HOT you're HOT" (they say)...... ACE..... ACE..... ACE...... Wham! 23-18... Dawgs! Another Hannah Fort solo block and the margin was up to 6 at 24-18. It took 4 attempts but Fort would not be denied as she stamped her personalized 'Seal of Approval' on this affair with a game ending attack point to close this one out at 25-21. It was a stellar effort by the highly touted and very talented senior middles for the Lady Bulldogs.

Unofficially, Williams led the charge with 9 kills and 7 block/block assists. Fort added 7 kills and 4 block/block assists. Jamie Kaleh and Kelli Stewart added 5 kills with Alicia Shaffer chipping in with 4 attack points. Shaffer added 2 block/block assists while Stewart added 2 block/block assists and 2 aces. Brittany Wheaton continued her brilliant serving for the week with 5 aces including 4 in game 3. (Dig and serve receive stats were unavailable but rest assured Wheaton and Shaffer led in those categories once again. Assists were not available for this writer as well but Davies, Holland, and Michael all distributed the ball around nicely to their teammates.)

Defensive specialists Lynnsay Manning (L)

and Brittany Wheaton (R) ...'one step ahead'.

The Ladies appeared to be getting into a nice rhythm as the district season approaches and each week the TEAM chemistry continues to mold itself into championship form - one match at a time. Next varsity match will be Tuesday evening against the always tough, former rival Brenham Cubettes at the Dawg House as the Ladies go for their 18th consecutive victory at home.
