MHS Lady Bulldog MB Michele 'Boom Boom' Williams takes on two Lady
Cougar defenders on 1 of her 17 kills, for Magnolia's big district win 3-1.
The district match tonight between these 2 evenly matched teams was real important and you just knew winning wasn't going to be easy but the reward was going to be great... the winner was going to have the upper hand of at least a 3rd place in 17-5A district volleyball play and the loser...well, let's just say, "it'll be a long steep road ahead for any chance of sharing one of the top three places in the district and/or attending any of the playoffs as a player".
This shot pretty much "says it all": the Lady Bulldogs celebrating a game win
and Cy Creek quickly huddling off to re-group and figure a way to beat Magnolia.
Great defense was the key in this Lady Bulldog (8-3 district) win as they bit down hard while over-powering and rejecting almost all of the Lady Cougar attacking attempts. Kelli Stewart had a blocked point to start this one out and had a great cross-court kill early in the game. Hannah Fort also played great in this one with a kill at 7-4; then teaming up with Heather Bowden on a blocked point at 9-4 and again with a great block later at 18-12. Hannah actually had a great match this whole evening. She played superb defense (5 solo blocks) and had numerous 'timely' kills (11 for the match) needed for Magnolia to keep the momentum. Hannah may have been the deciding factor in Magnolia's favor between these 2 teams this Friday night. Michele Williams (17 Kills for the evening) and Lauren Michael (17 Kills) both had a couple of blocked points to keep the Lady Bulldogs on top from beginning to end as Magnolia stretched the lead at closing time to 8. This audio picks up in Game #4 with the Lady Bulldogs on top in this dogfight 20-17. Things were starting to get out-of-hand with a couple of 'close calls', a rowdy crowd, a wounded opponent, and the Lady Bulldogs having their way....
