DAWGS Down Panthers in Sweep

Lady Bulldog setter Hannah Davies reversing the flow of the attack.

The Lady Bulldogs came out attacking the Lady Panthers from Lufkin, and making short work of their evening while systematically sweeping their best 3-out-of-5 match in less than one hour - then turning Lufkin's team bus around, and heading it back to Lufkin for another 150 minutes of Lady Panther solitude. The DAWGS flexed their mighty muscles blocking, hammering, passing and digging and then overpowered their visitors from every angle, starting with a boomer from Michele Williams on the left side of the court at 1-0; an OH Ashlynn Newman block at 2-1; a MB Hannah Fort dink at 7-3; her 'ever-threatening' Hannah Glide kill shot at 9-4 and another kill at 11-4 -all of which started to put the Panthers on ice early in the evening. When OH Alicia Shaffer started jump serving with an ace at 17-5, the Panthers had to realize they were cornered and trapped by a pack of hungry DAWGS. Magnolia did not let up as Hannah Fort blasted another shot on the floor at 18-7, then Michele Williams rocked another one at 20-10, then followed it up with another great shot at 21-10 and the DAWGS forced 4 more errors to close the first set at 25-12. Michele Williams finished the evening as the Bulldog's leader in kills with 10. Even with 2 Lufkin timeouts in there...it was still close to just 15 minutes of DAWGBALL!!

The second set was in good hands with the Lady Bulldogs in charge.

The second set started out with a stinger from OHR Kelli Stewart at 1-1 and a clever play by OHL Kristyn Bergen who drew the blockers up and dinked the ball over them and onto the only open spot on the floor at 2-1, which started the Lady Bulldogs off on the right paw. MB Michele Williams slammed a shot at 3-2, then sent a "shock-wave" of-a-kill that rocked the rafters at 5-3 that kick-started the momentum, getting it rolling again. A block by OH Alicia Shaffer at 9-4; then a flurry of points by Kristyn Bergen (a block at 13-5, a kill at 14-5, and again at 15-8) put the DAWGS in the driver's seat with their back paws on the accelerator....for good!! Again, Alicia hammered a cross-court kill at 19-13, then MB Hannah Fort blocked Lufkin's MB Stacy Foster at 20-13; leaving the last of the dirty work up to the Bulldogs' trained, professional killer (namely, hitter: Alicia Shaffer) who jammed them with a shot at 24-15 and a block to make them worthy of an indistinguishable, flattened 'road-kill' at 25-15.

Lady Bulldog MB Michele Williams had the jump on the Lady Panthers all evening.

The DAWGS continued their mauling in the final set by starting their scoring out with a legendary 'Boom-Boom Glide' kill from Lady Bulldog MB Michele Williams who sent a "heat-seeking missle" down the right side of the court at 1-0; then continued an onslought of forced errors until Lady Bulldog MB Hannah Fort broke out her own 'Hannah Hustle Glide' down the right side at 9-6. When OH Kristyn Bergen joined in with a shot at 11-8; and Michele Williams added a couple more kills at 12-8 and 17-11...the Lady Panthers' hopes dropped down to an anemic, barely-audible, pulse and heartbeat leaving our professional exterminators (Alicia Shaffer kill at 18-11; an Ashlynn Newman kill at 21-12; and another 'dagger-in-the-heart from Hannah Fort on her Hannah Hustle Glide at 23-13 ) a little "clean up" work to finish up on, a quick wash of the hands, and 25-14 ......Whalaah......dinner is served! ...MMmmmm, Deep dish Panther Pizza!!

The DAWGS (23-7, 4-0) did it again....another sweep - making it their third in a row (for the second time) while totalling 14 sweeps for this season and remaining un-blemished in district play. The DAWGS are going to need every bit of this momentum when they visit the Woodlands on Friday night! A great crowd was in the DAWG House tonight and the ladies will need every bit of support they can muster for this week's district showdown. This is a great opportunity for the Bulldog fans to continue to show their support while the Lady Bulldogs march toward the District 15-5A Championship and State Playoffs...!!!

Leaders:

Magnolia: Hannah Fort 9 kills, 5 blocks; Michele Williams 10 kills, 2 blocks, 3 aces; Alicia Shaffer 4 kills, 8 digs, 4 blocks; Caitlin Holland 12 assists; Hannah Davies 10 assists; Kristyn Bergen 6 kills.

Lufkin: Stacey Foster 13 kills, Tryneshia Ford 8 digs.

GREAT JOB LADIES!! GO LADY BULLDOGS!!!
