JV Takes "College Park to School" in Sweep

The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs JV volleyball team swept the College Park Lady Cavaliers JV as a prelude to the varsity game tonight at the DAWG House, by winning both sets by a score of: 25-22, 25-6. In the first set, the score appears to indicate that there was a tight game, but the Lady Cavaliers were held at arms' length throughout. Lady Bulldog MB Breann Matula had a great evening tonight - controlling the middle of both sides of the net - by leading off with a kill at 1-0 and another at 3-0, while Lady Bullpup setter Angela Yzaguirre sandwiched a couple of serving "aces" between those kills at 2-0 and 4-0. With OHL Michelle Larson's dink at 5-0, and Breann's serving ace at 8-2, the Bullpups were in command and enjoyed their widest point spread of this set.

Breann "Happy Birthday'd" a kill at 10-6; Angela Yzaguirre jump served another ace at 13-10 and Breann again nailed a kill for Magnolia at 14-10, and in doing so, turned away any hopes of a Lady Cavalier comeback. The Bullpups squeezed in another point (in the spread to 5 points) behind Katie Kreft's backrow kill at 22-17, until College Park made a final run at the Lady Bulldogs cutting the lead to 2 when Jamie Paulson lit 'em up at 23-21. It took another Angela Yzaguirre ace at 24-21 to give Magnolia a little more breathing room, and a final error by College Park to end this one at 25-22.

Set #2 was more domination by the Lady Bulldogs as they jumped on the Lady Cavaliers hard, gathering up a bunch of unstoppable momentum with an 11-0 start behind some strong net play, some great passing, and another serving display by Jamie Paulson who amassed 4 aces in the run along with an early block assist with Breann Matula. Breann and Michelle Larson also had another block assist at 4-0; Michelle had a kill at 5-0 and 9-0, while Breann had a kill at 7-0 and a Big Kill at 10-0 and again at 12-1 to really keep their distance from College Park. The Lady Bulldogs JV really pulled it all together with a great team effort and continued to build their lead going away to a 19 point edge, when Jamie Paulson and Breann Matula teamed up one last time and blocked the last attempt by the Cadavers for the set and match win 25-6.
