Great job here of putting up the arms for a block and
playing defense for our beloved Lady Bullpups!!
The Lady Bulldogs JV swept the St. Agnes Lady Tigers in their best 2-out-of-3 match tonight playing their own brand "Dawg-ball" with dawgball control, good dawgdefense and dawg-power when it was needed, by sweeping the match 2-0, (25-16 and 25-18). The ladies impressed the Dawg House fans with their resiliency and their determination to get through the rough spots and now that it's behind them - they should take a moment to pat themselves on the back and feel good about their accomplishments......o.k.that's enough......(now, get back to work)!!
The Bullpups started the first set out with a serving clinic that was being put on by Jamie Paulson who had 3 aces - and caused numerous serve receive errors while the ladies ran the score up to 7-1. Magnolia kept the early press on with a Meagan Little kill in the middle of the court at 12-6 and looked to be off to a good start. The Lady Tigers played tough however, and clawed their way back into the set at 12-16 - until the Lady Bulldogs nailed them with a MB Chelsea Jackson kill off the defenders' hands at 17-12; OHL Jamie Paulson with a nice cross court kill at 18-12; and when Breann Matula blocked the Tigers' attack at 20-14 - the set was totally DAWG from that point on. The only thing that was left to do, was for MB Meagan Little to jam 'em at the end with another kill at 25-16 and Set #1 was in the books!
Great maneuver here, folks!!...Lady Bulldog MB Meagan Little (23)
draws the blockers up on a "fake" only to have OHL Katie Kreft jam
'em with a clear shot as they come down with Jamie Paulson close by.
Set #2 started out with a Breann Matula kill at 1-0 and the Lady Bulldogs promptly went silent for a few plays and found themselves trailing 3-6 until Katie Kreft's kill at 4-6; and a follow up service ace at 8-10, complemented by another Jamie Paulson "cross-court" kill at 9-10, and just as suddenly, another Breann Matula kill at 10-10 had the Dawgs back and barking! Magnolia went on a scoring spree - outscoring the Lady Tigers 11-4 at that point with some exciting play-making by Jamie Paulson with a kill at 11-10 and then a dink at 13-10. The ladies kept pushing ahead culminating with a Breann Matula kill after a spectacular volley at 19-13 that seemed to take a lot of the fight out of the Tigers. When setter Angela Yzaguirre dazzled the Tigers with a dink at 21-14, it was as if both sides decided "it was out of reach, so let's trade some points, and call it a night...." MB Meagan Little had a kill at 24-18 and Jamie Paulson closed out the match with a kill 25-18, just like she started the night out 45 minutes earlier.....Bamm, close the door!On a side note: It turned out that Breann Matula's spectacular performance was more than an idle coincidence - it was her 16th birthday!! Since Breann played so well on her birthday, her mom (Frances), had a brand new 2006 Chevrolet Corvette out in the parking lot waiting for her..........!!! (Naw, not really!!) Happy 16th Birthday Breann!!
GREAT JOB AGAIN, LADIES!! BULLDOG PRIDE !!!
