DAWGS Sweep 12th Match in a Row

Again, the set started a little slow for the DAWGS as Spring fought hard to stay in this match. After all, it was do-or-die for the Lady Lions.. The ladies kept it close until the score began to open a little at 5-4, then like a runaway train....the Lady Bulldogs again blew the set open with a 10-0 surge that put them on top at 15-4 and not looking back.

Lady Bulldog Michele Williams 'owned' the Spring Lady Lions.

Magnolia's overall strength and experience was apparent and the Lady Lions must've known the end of their season was near. The teams traded points and the score was at 20-9 and Coach J substituted players freely as the set and match ended at 25-14. Solid. The DAWGS may have played better matches before, but credit is due to the Lions who have a scrappy and competitive team who gave it all they had and represented themselves and their school very well.

Coach J huddling the ladies up during a Lion time out.

Michele Williams ended the evening with 10 kills, 2 solo blocks and 2 block assists; Alicia Shaffer had a productive night with 8 kills, 15 Digs and 3 Aces; Jamie Kaleh ended up with 7 kills, 1 block assist, 7 Digs and 4 Aces; Hannah Fort had 6 kills with 1 solo block; Meagan Little had 6 kills; Kelli Stewart had 4 kills, 1 block assist, 4 Digs, and 2 Aces; Hannah Davies had 21 assists and 2 Aces and team mate Paige Holland finished with 13 assists. Again, senior libero Brittany Wheaton led the way with 19 Digs.

Nice win and the Lady Bulldogs maintained their focus. The ladies will be playing in the College Station area on Friday at A & M Consolidated gymnasium. Stay connected to the blog site for details on their opponent, their times, directions, and whatever, details!

It was hard to know who's protecting who tonight, but

good to see our men in blue at a packed DAWG House!

LET'S GO TO STATE!!

DAWGS Carve Into Lady Lions

The Lady Bulldogs wasted no time in the second set as they pulled away from a 2-2 tie and went off on a tear, owning a 4 point edge through a 10-6 score behind the reliable Alicia Shaffer, Michele Williams, Jamie Kaleh and Kelli Stewart who all punished the Lions as the Lady Bulldogs controlled the game from the onset.

Lady Bulldogs Kelli Stewart (L) and Hannah Fort (R) teaming up to stop the

Lady Lions while Brittany Wheaton and Alicia Shaffer (10) "have their backs".

When the rotation came around, Hannah Fort lit 'em up with 3 of her 6 kills for the evening and kept a 4 point edge working as the score climbed to 17-13. From there, Meagan Little pounded a shot off the Lions at 18-13 as the Lionettes continued with their problems holding up against the stronger Lady Bulldogs. Again, they fell down when Alicia Shaffer pummeled them with a shot off their hands at 22-16 and a scorcher of a shot at 24-16. The DAWGS coasted through the finish line at 25-18 and the crowd began to feel a little nostalgic, perhaps realizing they wouldn't probably be seeing this team playing more than 1 game in their beloved DAWG House anymore.

Middle Hitter Hannah Fort bends over backwards to

help her team mates win. (It's also good limbo practice!)

They say, "all great things must come to an end", but these ladies are a unique group of talented athletes and for those who have been following them, well let's say "we've certainly enjoyed the ride". The ladies have set the bar even higher for the younger players who will look forward to being a Lady Bulldog volleyball player when they enter the program. Not many athletes get a chance to be a part of a dynasty in their careers!

Lady Bulldogs Maul Lady Lions

The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs officially began their run at the state playoffs this evening by mauling the Spring Lady Lions in the opening set by a score of 25-15. In doing so the DAWGS embarked on their 33 game/set winning streak by utilizing an overpowering offense that came after the scattered Lions from everywhere while mixing in a lethal combination of deadly serves. The DAWGS had a total of 12 Aces from 5 different players for the evening and had the Lions on their back paws with the others.

The Lions were going to the DAWGS tonight!!

The Lady Lions started strong in this set by jumping out to an early lead while the slow moving DAWGS seemed to be having a hard time getting it together. The Lionettes had Magnolia's play looking sloppy behind their 5 point lead at 11-6 when the DAWGS suddenly awoke and pulled their 'A' game together. It took an Alicia Shaffer kill at 7-11 to ignite a 5 to 1 point stretch and to thoroughly invigorate the DAWGS by putting nitro in their tank!

Lady Bulldogs Meagan Little and Hannah Fort shown here closing off the lane.

Magnolia blew the game wide open by scoring 13 points to Spring's 3 and deflated the skiddish Lions. In the run, Shaffer had a slew of ace serves and a couple of kills (one from the backrow); coupled with Michele 'Boom Boom' Williams who had her patented Glide SlammaJammaRoosky kills working (including one Excedrin Strength blast off a poor Lionette's head); and a bunch of errors thrown in from the bewildered pride of Lions that made the slow start by the DAWGS to start this game, just a faint memory.

MH Michele Williams unleashing her wrath as

team mate Kelli Stewart (8) expresses her approval.

The appreciative crowd began their howling as the DAWGS once again took care of their business 25-15, and started to rock the DAWG House! The DAWGS meanwhile, began to regroup...licking their chops and sharpening their claws...

DAWGS Pound Lady Mustangs In Sweep

Holy Frijole, DAWG Fans....!!! The DAWGIE Nation is howling and it's not because there's a full moon tonight! The #3 Area ranked ladies volleyball team (that's MAGNOLIA!!) just swept the #2 ranked Area team (MEMORIAL HS) on their homecourt while playing their 'tune-up' match for the upcoming Texas state playoffs!

Some more great moves by the victorious Lady Bulldogs

in their DAWGIE dance while a Lady Mustang ponders.

The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs and the Memorial Lady Mustangs were both on a parallel course as both teams went undefeated in their district play and also had a little score to settle on the side. Last year the DAWGS swept Memorial in the DAWG House and Memorial went deeper and on to the semifinals in the state tournament, while Magnolia fell short at the regional semi-finals. The year before that - it was the very same Memorial Lady Mustangs who surprised the talented 2005 DAWGS and eliminated them from the playoffs in their bi-district match. Both of these teams are experienced and from pedigreed programs that are similar in a lot of ways with this year's line up at Memorial having a great passing team to compliment their hitters and in particular, the hitting of their well known and respected Outside Hitter and All Around talent: Sidney Stewart; while the Lady Bulldogs had a very good passing team of their own with a host of weapons that were armed and ready to serve. It was a good venue and an even match on paper.

As expected, the match started out even and stayed close as both teams played well and fought hard in the first set with the DAWGS ending up on top at 27-25; then Magnolia would overcome an early 3 point defecit in the beginning of set 2 to sprint by the Lady Mustangs - running away with a 25-18 win; and now, if history was to repeat itself.....the wounded Mustangs would rise from their ashes and put a mighty comeback together to beat the DAWGS in 5!! ......WRONG!!!

Meagan Little and Hannah Fort teamed up on this

block to reject any thoughts of a Lady Mustang attack.

The Lady Bulldogs must've learned from whatever previous mistakes and weren't to be denied, as Kelli Stewart opened the DAWGS' scoring with a tip at 2-1; then a Shaffer service ace put the score at 3-1; a 'Boom Boom' shuffle pushed it to 5-2; a Jamie Kaleh 'Happy Birthday' kill at 6-2; a Meagan Little/Michele Williams' combo assist block at 7-2; then another Kaleh kill into the left corner had Magnolia leading the way at 8-2 and there was no one in maroon looking back!

Great form being shown here by Alicia Shaffer as

the ball gets passed for another Bulldog attack.

The teams traded points evenly with 12 apiece putting the score at 20-14, when the Lady Bulldogs went for the juggler and polished off the Stangs once and for all, outscoring their hosts by 5 to 1 behind a nice kill shot by Jamie Kaleh in the corner at 21-15 and an ace at 22-15; and a little help from the Lady Mustangs who mercifully ended it at 25-15. Jamie Kaleh led with 11 kills while Williams and Fort added 10 each. Fort also had eight block assists. Davies had 24 assists. (There's an audio file below...)

Just a gut feeling here, folks...but, I think the Lady Bulldogs made believers out of several people in this one! The ladies played well, were cohesive, and focused and moved quicker when transitioning from a defensive posture to an attack mode. Their reaction time and effort was extremely sharp and effecient at the right times and was impressive to witness! One can only deduce that the ladies have worked hard, listened well, and have learned a lot and are as ready as they can be to make their run.

The ladies will be starting their BI-DISTRICT PLAYOFF MATCH this Tuesday, Oct. 30 7 pm at The DAWG House vs. Spring.

DAWGS Begin Their Feast In Second Set

In Set 2, the Lady Mustangs galloped out of the stable and jumped to a 4-1 advantage behind several errors from the Lady Bulldogs who were still feeling pretty good about zipping past the 'Stangs at crunch time in the first set. The wake-up call quickly came from Kelli Stewart who gave the Lady Mustangs a dose of reality with a shot hammered off the defenders' hoofs at 2-4; a Jamie Kaleh precision shot in the left corner at 3-4; then a Michele Williams' quick kill tied the teams up at 4-4.

It was a race to the finish as freshman Paige

Holland set this one up for her hungry team mates!

Memorial again raised their level of play with a spirited attack to grab the lead at 5-4, only to have junior hitter Meagan Little slam a shot in the middle to tie the DAWGS up again at 5-5, and as it turns out ...started the Lady Bulldogs "off and to the right" as they never relinquished the lead for the rest of the evening! It was a Meagan Little/Hannah Fort combo assist block at 6-5; a Hannah Fort shot at 9-7; then a feeding frenzy from Kaleh, Williams, Fort, and Little (sounds a little like a law firm, doesn't it?) that put the DAWGS in control as they cruised to a 7 point advantage at the finish.

This Lady Mustang attack attempt was stopped by a DAWGIE pile of

blockers (left-to-right: Meagan Little, Hannah Fort, and Jamie Kaleh)

DAWGS and 'STANGS Go Neck 'n Neck

There had to questions in the back of the minds of the fans, the coaches, and the players early Friday evening, as both of the teams eyed each other across the court while warming up for their match. One can only wonder how the players viewed themselves and their opponents after cruising through their district play unscathed? Questions, like: ...."Where our competitors not as strong as we thought they were?; and are we prepared to play at the next elevated level of competition?; Has the early tournament schedule prepared us for what we are about to face?; How well are our teams going to pull together as the situations become tougher? Which team is going to 'show up' tonight?; How will some of the newer players react to the state 5A playoff experience?" ... and so on.

The Memorial Lady Mustangs and the Magnolia Lady Bulldogs almost mirrored each other in appearance, approach, records, programs, and talent, and it was a very good match up (again) for both schools as they both prepared for their state runs. This is what it's all about!!

Lady Bulldog Alicia Shaffer serving up an Ace in the beginning of Set 1.

In the first set, the teams played as if it was a "do-or-die" playoff game and battled on every point, countering each other and not allowing either team to gain more than a 2 point advantage on the other before the other team would come back and tie the score and reverse the momentum. It was nip-and-tuck from the beginning and was the scenario late into the set until the DAWGS tied the game behind a Slammin', High Flyin', Kelli Stewart who sent a WMD missle to the middle of the 'Stangs' floor at 19-19. It was as if the DAWGS jammed a stake into the ground.

Junior Lady Bulldog Kelli Stewart found a way

to put the DAWGS in a position to win the first set.

After an error by the Stangs, the DAWGS looked to be in good shape at 20-19, but again Sidney Stewart didn't want to let go easily and killed one to tie it up again at 20-20, only to be denied the lead on the next play with a team mate's service error to Magnolia's advantage: 21-20. An error by the DAWGS put it at 21-21. A Michele Boom Boom Williams' Jammarooskie kill shot put the DAWGS back on top at 22-21. A Mustang error put it at 23-21, and Memorial's last time out was called. When play resumed, a DAWGIE error put the score at 23-22, then an error by the 'Stangs put it at 24-22 when this audio file starts up:

DAWGS Bury the Highlanders in 3

The ladies finally lost their composure!! And why not? You're

looking at the 2007 15-5A district champion Magnolia Lady Bulldogs!!

The reigning District 15-5A womens' volleyball champions made it a night to remember as the 2007 Magnolia Lady Bulldogs pummeled the Lady Highlanders from The Woodlands in 3 straight, leaving a back-to-back legacy to the throne as repeat district champions while being the newest members in this district. The DAWGS did it in fine fashion as they finished play this year- undefeated in district matches (10-0 with 20 wins in 2 years) 30 district game/set wins with no losses (60-1 in 2 years) and have ruled the roost since joining the 15-5A district two years ago.

Lady Bulldogs Hannah Davies and Brittany Wheaton continue to play great defense!

This night belonged to Magnolia as the DAWGS jumped out to a 4 point lead at 4-0 and were in control for the rest of the set. The Lady Highlanders had no answer for the DAWGS' attack as the quick set in the middle worked to perfection. Michele Williams 17 kills for the evening were predominately either on the fly or quickly set by Hannah Davies and blasted quickly through the seam in the middle. Hannah Fort also was able to take advantage of the openings and did another exceptional job blocking and going after any attack attempt. Once that strategy worked, the outside lanes became lethal for the hitters such as Kelli Stewart and Jamie Kaleh, Alicia Shaffer, and Meagan Little, and things don't look so good when you're on the other side of the net when it's like this! The DAWGS stretched the lead to 8 at 17-9 behind their onslaught and quickly made short work of their match with a 25-16 victory for their final district sweep of the season.

Junior Megan Little shown here intensely guarding her post.

Records: Magnolia 30-7, 10-0; TWHS 16-13, 6-4

Leaders: Magnolia - Michele Williams 17 kills; Hannah Fort 7 kills, 5 blocks; Hannah Davies 25 assists; Alicia Shaffer 8 kills, 12 digs; Kelli Stewart 6 kills; Paige Holland 13 assists, 4 digs; Brittany Wheaton 13 digs;

TWHS - Kayleigh Comeaux 6 kills; Katie Messing 5 kills; Mary McNamara 12 assists, 9 digs.

The ladies remained focused throughout this match and on their goals and must now look ahead and prepare for their run for the state title. A warm up match is scheduled for 6 PM this Friday evening at Memorial High School with the always tough Lady Mustangs and the Lady Bulldogs are certainly capable of going all the way. They have worked extremely hard and are deserving of our unwavering support. Let's get ready to rumble!!!

DAWGS In Motion Against The Woodlands

Like a well oiled machine, the Lady Bulldogs showed up at The Woodlands HS gymnasium prepared, clicking on all cylinders and ready to play Tuesday night, while keeping their undefeated district record intact against the closest competitor. The Lady Highlanders from The Woodlands were in a tie with College Park for second place and an outside chance in continuing on in Bi-District play and could use the momentum of an upset in their quest to move forward.

The Lady Highlanders pressed early in set 1, playing it close to the vest and jumped to an early lead at 3-2 but could not hold it very long. Actually, the Lady Bulldogs tied the Lady Highlanders at 4-4, then went ahead by an Alicia Shaffer kill at 5-4 and never relinquished the lead in this one as the DAWGS established the pecking order for tonight's performance.

Lady Bulldog Alicia Shaffer shown here 'cutting the corner'.

Once the machine started rolling it was a pleasure to watch as the DAWGS pulled ahead on an 8 to 3 point advantage behind a variety of kills from Shaffer, Michele 'Boom Boom' Williams, the 'High Flyin' Kelli Stewart, and a quick set to Hannah Fort as the DAWGS ganged up on the fading Lady Highlanders. Once the Lady Highlanders' coach Leslie Madison called time out, you'd have thought the momentum would have changed, but the DAWGS had a different plan. All they did was jump back on The Woodlands and run out on another 12 to 6 streak to ice their neighbor 25-13.

Things may look kind of confusing here, but the DAWGS

were in total control against The Woodlands.

In the second set, the Lady Highlanders picked up their pace and again held the lead early in the game. They led by 3 at 7-4 as the DAWGS were having an error prone 'moment', but a 9 point scoring spree cured that in a hurry, behind a Jamie Kaleh kill at 5-7; a Hannah Fort shot off their hands at 6-7; a Hannah Fort/Meagan Little combo block assist at 7-7 and at 8-7; back-to-back Lady Highlanders' errors; a Hannah Fort dink at 12-7 sandwiched by a couple of un-returnable serves by Jamie Kaleh at 11-7 and 13-7. Again the DAWGS pulled away with their extra horsepower!

Lady Bulldogs Kelli Stewart (l) and Michele Williams (r)

teaming up to slow down a Lady Highlander attack.

The best The Woodlands could do in this one was to narrow the gap to 3 points at 16-13, but then quickly became error prone as well, while the Lady Bulldogs poured it on with a 'Boom Boom' Williams assault that yielded 9 points to The Woodlands' 2 ... leaving a final score on the scoreboard at 25-15. The DAWGS were getting close to where they wanted to be, with another sweep in sight... Here's an audio clip in Game 1:

DAWGS Stuff Pantherettes

The Lady Dawgs continued their winning ways at home with another sweep of the Lufkin Pantherettes at the Dawg House Friday night by the scores of 25-14, 25-12, and 25-13. The winning streak is now at 23 and counting.....

The highlight of this night was that it was Senior night and the festivities afterwards were filled with pagentry and emotion capped with all kinds of presents for the seniors and desserts after the presentations. The match started fittingly with an Alicia Shaffer (senior) serve receive pass and a Michele Williams (senior) attack point that has probably been choreographed on the playing court at MHS over 1,000 times in their stellar 4 year varsity careers. It still NEVER gets old! Jamie Kaleh (senior) followed up with an attack point of her own to get the Dawgs off and rolling. Hannah Fort (senior) added a couple of kills to put the Lady Dawgs up 8-4. Brittany Wheaton (senior) kept the Lufkin offense at bay all night with her exceptional back row defense. A couple of Shaffer kills and aces sandwiched around a couple Williams attack points and the score was 20-12 Magnolia. Another Fort attack point helped close out game one at 25-14.

Game 2 was more of the same with the Juniors getting into the act and the remaining senior team players getting in on the action and playing well: Katie Kreft, Lynnsay Manning, and Kati Michael. Superb Junior setter Hannah Davies started out with a couple of ace serves to show why she's one of the district leaders in that category. Shaffer added back to back kills before Junior Kelli Stewart and Senior Katie Kreft combined to produce 10 straight service points - includng 3 consecutive aces by Stewart who is turning into a great all-around player. Wow! 15-3 Bulldogs. Breann Matula added a solo block and attack point to take the lead to 18-6. Fort and Shaffer added attack points to help the Ladies double up their district opponents from up north 22-11. Perhaps the highlight of the night on the court was Katie Kreft running the table with final 3 points of the game including an ACE serve. What a special night!

Game 3 was close early with Stewart, Kaleh, Williams, and Fort scoring points to keep the Dawgs close at 6-6. Megan Little joined the party with a monster kill to give the Lady Bulldogs a lead they would not relinquish. Wheaton got her turn in service rotation and after 10 consecutive service points the score was a comfortable 19-8. Can I hear another WOW!??

Williams added another patented kill shot and then Ashley Newman ended the kill stats for the night with an unreturnable bullet to make the final count 25-13.

Many thanks to Coach Johnson and her staff for organizing the festivities afterwards and to Van and Karen for hosting a small gathering for the seniors and their immediate family. It was a memorable night for the Magnolia volleyball family and one that will be remembered for setting the bar of excellence for years to follow. One more disrict match at The Woodlands on Tuesday night and that will end the district slate. Hopefully the Ladies can sweep again and complete district with a perfect 10-0 record and a perfect 30-0 game count. Come on out and support the Lady Bulldogs as they prepare for the upcoming state playoffs! It's going to get very exciting very soon!

2007 Lady Bulldogs 15-5A District Champs!

After blowing the War Eagles away in the second set, it was just a formality when the teams took the court for the final game. It wasn't pretty to watch, especially if you were an Oak Ridge fan, but who could turn away? The DAWGS kept tearing into and shredding the the War Eagles like a uneditted National Geographic wildlife film while knowing in the back of your mind, that nature's number one rule has always been: "Only the strong survive". Still one can't turn away as one animal in the kingdom hunts, traps and finishes off another while completely and naturally completing the cycle of life! It was just the Lady Bulldogs moment to be at the top of the food chain!! The ladies have been on the hunt together for years and it is time to relish a little of the good stuff...

Lady Bulldogs (l to r) Hannah Fort, Michele Williams, and Kelli Stewart

tried to contain their excitement before the Oak Ridge match.

The DAWGS would have as much as a 15 point edge over the shell shocked Lady War Eagles as the DAWGS unleashed their attack behind more of the same: good defense, great passing, pounding kill shots and timely blocks from Kelli Stewart (5 kills for the evening, and 1 block assist), Michele Williams (11 kills, 1 solo block and 2 block assists), Meagan Little (2 kills, 2 block assists), Jamie Kaleh (3 kills, 1 block assist, 9 digs,), Hannah Fort (7 kills, 3 assist blocks); and deadly serving from Alicia Shaffer (4 aces, and 6 digs), Kelli Stewart (3 aces), Brittany Wheaton (2 aces and 11 digs), Hannah Davies (1 ace, 5 digs, and 16 assists) and Paige Holland (1 ace and 16 assists).

Now, that's more like it!!

Coach J gave the ladies a little time to enjoy their conquest and gave some players a rest, but the DAWGS kept stoking the fire and cruised to a 25-12 finish and their 8th district win with no losses and a clean sweep record of 24 games against no losses, intact as well. This team has been truly amazing! Here's an audio file nearing the end of this match and a brief announcement from Coach J below:

GO LADY BULLDOGS!!

DAWGS Hammer the Birds

Set 2, and the Lady Bulldogs have their 'sea legs' on and were setting out to go after the Lady War Eagles with a vengeance. The DAWGS pounced on 'em from the beginning, unfazed by the unruly, partisan home crowd of students standing on the court boundaries while blocking the spectators view and trying to rally their spinning Lady War Eagles. Actually, it worked against them as a more determined Lady Bulldog team started the game off with an Alicia Shaffer ace serve; then a Kelli Stewart/Michele Williams assist block; then another Shaffer ace; then a couple of crippling blows by Michele 'Boom Boom' Williams; and few errors later...the War Eagles were looking at the scoreboard as they were trailing at 11-3 and BTW, their nest was on fire!

Lady Bulldog junior setter Hannah Davies kept her team mates focused

with her crisp setting and the Lady War Eagles guessing with her dink shots.

It was all that was needed to disenchant the hooligans as they broke it up (with the help of a school official) and quietly went back to their seats (where they stood for the remainder of the match with not a lot to cheer about). Of course, the DAWGS were oblivious to all of this as they opened their lead to 15 points behind some mauling offensive maneuvers by OHR Meagan Little's hit off their hands at 12-3; a Kelli Stewart ace at 13-3; a 'Boom Boom' imprint inside the 10' line at 14-4; a couple of blocks, hits, and Oak Ridge errors.... yaddi, yaddi...!!!

The DAWGS were right in the middle of their stride at 21-6 when they mercifully pulled back and basically traded points for the remainder of the game, as some of the home fans began leaving a little early. They had seen enough. The DAWGS are for real! Here's a file ... (I had a hard time keeping myself from gloating):

DAWGS Overcome Slow Start To Pass War Eagles

The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs overcame a sluggish start against a stubborn Oak Ridge Lady War Eagles team in the first set Tuesday night to capture the ladies near the end of the game in a near sprint. The DAWGS have maintained a perfect 15-5A district record all season and for a while, it looked like the streak was in jepoardy when the Lady War Eagles earned as much as a 4 point lead early in the set at 7-3 behind some impressive play of their own. The DAWGS kept their cool however, and patiently battled back, earning every point the hard way: a Hannah Fort kill here, an Alicia Shaffer kill there, then another Hannah Fort/Alicia Shaffer combo block assist put the DAWGS back in the hunt at 6-7 where the DAWGS stayed closer until later.

Hannah Fort (left) and Alicia Shaffer (right) backed the War Eagles down with their defense.

The Lady War Eagles kept the upper hand (or wing) but couldn't pull any farther out front than a 3 point margin as Michele 'Boom Boom' Williams lit 'em up with a couple of blasts in the middle of the court at 9-11 and 12-13; then added on that awesome "Boom Boom Glide" kill shot of her's at 13-15; and a couple of ace serves by Alicia Shaffer who scattered the War Eagles at 10-11 and 11-11 then later down the road, a nice kill at 15-17; and a bullet by Hannah Fort at 14-16... kept things honest until Oak Ridge blinked and couldn't seem to hold the momentum and began their downward spiral while suddenly realizing the DAWGS had 'em grounded at 17-17 and not only was their coup d'etat losing steam, but it was time for a time-out!

When play resumed, Kelli Stewart immediately pounced on 'em with a laser-guided missle of a shot down the right side line at 18-17, and a "Happy Birthday" present of a blast by Hannah Fort at 19-17, and then following it up with a hit off the defenders' claws at 20-18 - to put the DAWGS in a familiar place.....it's called being the lead dog. They say the view never changes unless you're the lead dog and the Lady Bulldogs could only see blue skies and the horizon as they were in the midst of an 8-1 run when this audio file starts:

DAWGS Clean Up With a 'SWEEP-SWEEP"

The DAWGS kept their record and their DAWG House clean and green with their repeat sweep of the College Park Lady Cavaliers with a (25-10, 25-20, and 26-24) close out in district 15-5A play. While the DAWGS cruised in their first 2 sets this one was destined to be dramatic and a close one to call. The Lady Cavs are too strong to be handled in 3, much less for the second time in a row! But the experienced DAWGS kept their composure and played consistently throughout and eventually reaped their just rewards.

The DAWGS led this final set almost all the way and at one point had a 4 point advantage, but the Lady Cavs were not going to go down quietly. Whenever Magnolia seemed to be ready to pull away, the Cavs dug deeper and pulled together and would pull closer to the lead until they finally caught the DAWGS backpeddling at 22-22. Things got interesting real quickly when an errant serve receive attempt and a blocked Lady Bulldog attack put the Lady Cavs in command at 24-22 and in a position to win this set and play the role of the spoiler. A Lady Bulldog time out was called by Coach J and the DAWG House buzzed in anticipation. Down by 2 with their backs against the wall, a call quickly went out to the Lady Bulldogs' "Go-To player" .... namely, one Michele 'Boom Boom' (Bring 'Em Back) Williams who answered the call by turning the momentum around in the DAWGS' favor almost single-handedly with her unstoppable glide-kill shot to the right at 23-24 and an assist block (after a reeling Lady Cav error ) to put Magnolia on top at 25-24. It was almost a formality, that team mate Jamie Kaleh would finish the Lady Cavaliers off once-and-for-all, with a shot straight to the court floor at 26-24 with the House roaring with approval. The DAWGIE Nation was safe for another day and the ladies remain on a record pace!

The unofficial stats:

Michele Boom Boom Williams: 11 kills, 1 solo and 3 block assists
Jamie Kaleh: 8 kills, 1 block assist, 10 digs
Hannah Fort: 6 kills, 1 solo and 4 block assists
Kelli Stewart: 4 kills, 3 block assists, 3 aces
Alicia Shaffer: 4 kills, 1 block assist, 13 digs and 3 aces
Meagan Little: 3 kills, 1 block assist
Ashlynn Newman: 1 block assist
Hannah Davies: 7 digs, 20 assists and 2 aces
Paige Holland: 12 assists
Brittany Wheaton: 7 digs and 1 ace

Come pack the DAWG House and have a GREAT TIME by watching these ladies play and cheering on this exceptional group of seniors and underclassmen, who have worked so hard for our support.

ONE MATCH AT A TIME!!!
GO LADY BULLDOGS!!!

DAWGS Rip Into Lady Cavs

After bludgeoning the College Park Lady Cavaliers in the first set 25-10, the Lady Bulldogs still had more to give. As the ever-popular line goes from a certain pirate movie: "The beatings will continue until morale improves", and the Lady Bulldogs for once, wanted to play the part of the pirates!

Hannah Davies wasted no time by starting the set with an ace serve at 1-0; then Kelli Stewart blasted one off the Cav's hands at 2-1 then followed with an ace of her own at 5-3; Michele Williams had a well placed dink at 8-3; and Jamie Kaleh sent a rocket down the court side line to put the DAWGS firmly in control at 11-5 and on the 'right side of the whip'. The DAWGS continued to surge ahead jumping to a 21-11 lead behind several Cav errors; some great defensive plays (Hannah Fort and Ashlynn Newman block assist at 13-5 forcing the Cavs into a time out, and a Michele Williams/Kelli Stewart 'gang block' at 19-11); and some impressive kills ('All Universe' Alicia Shaffer with a line shot at 14-6; a great blast in the middle from MB/MH Hannah Fort at 16-7); and immediately followed up with the new rotation - with a statement made by a Michele 'Boom Boom' Williams' seismic SlammaJammaKrammaHamma (wow...., how far can we go with this?) kill shot at 17-7.

The DAWGS laid back at this point, chillin' and taking a brief DAWGIE nap - allowing the Lady Cavs to re-group, gain some momentum of their own, and to reappear like an old coin scoring 8 points to the Lady Bulldogs' 2 and on the doorstep to a 23-19 defecit. But OH Jamie Kaleh and Alicia Shaffer rattled off the last 2 points for Magnolia and the DAWGS maintained their perfect record against College Park and the 15-5A district for another set, 25-20. Who said being a pirate wasn't fun?
