DAWGS Clean Up With a 'SWEEP-SWEEP"

The DAWGS kept their record and their DAWG House clean and green with their repeat sweep of the College Park Lady Cavaliers with a (25-10, 25-20, and 26-24) close out in district 15-5A play. While the DAWGS cruised in their first 2 sets this one was destined to be dramatic and a close one to call. The Lady Cavs are too strong to be handled in 3, much less for the second time in a row! But the experienced DAWGS kept their composure and played consistently throughout and eventually reaped their just rewards.

The DAWGS led this final set almost all the way and at one point had a 4 point advantage, but the Lady Cavs were not going to go down quietly. Whenever Magnolia seemed to be ready to pull away, the Cavs dug deeper and pulled together and would pull closer to the lead until they finally caught the DAWGS backpeddling at 22-22. Things got interesting real quickly when an errant serve receive attempt and a blocked Lady Bulldog attack put the Lady Cavs in command at 24-22 and in a position to win this set and play the role of the spoiler. A Lady Bulldog time out was called by Coach J and the DAWG House buzzed in anticipation. Down by 2 with their backs against the wall, a call quickly went out to the Lady Bulldogs' "Go-To player" .... namely, one Michele 'Boom Boom' (Bring 'Em Back) Williams who answered the call by turning the momentum around in the DAWGS' favor almost single-handedly with her unstoppable glide-kill shot to the right at 23-24 and an assist block (after a reeling Lady Cav error ) to put Magnolia on top at 25-24. It was almost a formality, that team mate Jamie Kaleh would finish the Lady Cavaliers off once-and-for-all, with a shot straight to the court floor at 26-24 with the House roaring with approval. The DAWGIE Nation was safe for another day and the ladies remain on a record pace!
