JV Wins Great District Match Against Cy Creek

Lady Bulldog MB Breana Matula showing perfect form while discouraging Cy Creek
from entering her 'space'. Matula had a match kill shot to end it all in Game #3.

What an exciting and inspirational match the fans saw this Friday night as the Magnolia Lady Bulldogs JV (5-6) turned the tables around on the (now 7-4) Cy Creek Lady Cougars JV (11-25 in Game #1, to 25-23 in Game #2, and galloping by 25-15 in Game #3). Game #1 was almost too brutal to watch as the Lady Bullpups were trailing by 11 points at 6-17 when the Cy Creek JV began to empty their bench with their subs. The Lady Cougars looked impressive as they rallied off 8 points to the Lady Bullpups 5 to cruise to a 25-11 victory. A lesser team would've run up their white flag at this point, but guess what?....the Bullpups were just beginning to dig deeper and besides,....THEY DON'T HAVE A WHITE FLAG!!!

Doesn't seem fair? One against two? You may be right. It'll may take 2 or 3
more Lady Cougars to stop a determined Lady Bulldog Jamie Paulson.

Immediately, Magnolia turned it up a notch and started out with real good defensive play in Game #2. They initially lead the Lady Cougars at 3-2 before Cy Creek came back and tied the game up at 5-5 and then took off to a 5-11 lead. Magnolia came back to close it a little to 10-13 before Creek stretched the lead again at 18-13. Magnolia seemed to gather momentum and closed it a little again to 15-18 when Creek called for a timeout. Magnolia went on a 7-4 run at that point, knotting the game at 22-22 and the fun was just beginning! Katie Kreft had a kill to put the Bullpups up at 23-22 and the Lady Cougars burned their last timeout. A few minutes later Kati Michael put a well placed shot in the corner of the Lady Cougars left rear corner of the court and Magnolia was sitting pretty at 24-23. A Chelsea Jackson blocked point at this point finished off the Cougars who had to have felt like they'd just been skinned and fileted, all at once!!

The Bullpups put it together in Game #3 with some pretty nifty play that included:

  • Kati Michael and Chelsea Jackson opening Magnolia's attack with a pair of kills 2-3.
  • Kati Michael had a neat left handed kill shot to tie it at 3-3.
  • Kati Michael again 'back-handed' a kill at 5-6.
  • The Bullpups rattled off 7 points to Creek's 2 to put the score at 12-8 and Creek called for a timeout.
  • Chelsea Jackson had another timely blocked point at 14-9 before Creek made a last gasp attempt to recover by closing the game to 16-13. After a timeout, Magnolia jumped ahead to 20-15 and Creek called their last timeout.
  • Kati Michael had 2 serve aces and the stage was set at 24-15, the Bullpups in charge.
  • It didn't last long as Lady Bulldog MB Breane Matula slammed home the winning game and match point to the floor and the Lady Bullpups had one of their sweeter victories as a group, and a moment of plentiful and unrestrained exuberance...

The Lady Bulldogs JV gang huddling and getting it together between games against Cy Creek.

Once again, these ladies amazed us all with their resilience and camaraderie!! Kudos, ladies...you showed everyone - tough situations can be overcome....YOU ROCK!!!

"It is such a pleasure to listen and read your blogs each week. I know it must be difficult to catch everything, or everyone, but just a reminder to keep looking at JV's Hannah Davies. Each week she brings 110% through her setting, ball control, and hustle. Keep those blogs comin! GO DAWGS"

"Thanks for your comment...you're absolutely right! Hannah Davies always gives it everything she's got! She has been instrumental in the JV's successes this year and will undoubtedly have many more in the seasons ahead. We have her on our radar screen!
