Set 3: DAWGS Bury Tigerettes For Good

Set 3: The Lady Bulldogs (up 2-0 in their best 3-of-5) were getting close to 'sweep-sweeping' Conroe once and for all and somehow things still just didn't seem right. Maybe the crowd was waiting to see the wheels fall off this fast moving train; or maybe they thought Conroe would actually give the DAWGS a real run in breaking this reign of dominance Magnolia seems to have over them in volleyball; or maybe...... the sun wouldn't come up the next morning! NOT!!

Instead, what they got was a chance to sit back and watch this final set start out tight with some good volleys and some great play by both teams and a dominating performance from the Lady Bulldogs, led by All American MB Michele Williams...starting with her 'Boom Boom' Glide kill shot at 3-3; a tip at 5-3; then on her next rotation (while team mate Alicia Shaffer was regaining her senses after colliding with the stands) slam one for a kill in the middle at 13-13; which started the DAWGS on a 12 to 6 run 'for the gold'; and another 'Glide' kill shot at 21-17. Michele finished the evening with a solid 12 kills, 2 Solo blocks and 2 Assist blocks; while Shaffer had 4 Kills, 11 Digs, and 2 Aces and a stretch of 7 serves that yielded Magnolia 7 points while she appeared to be still a 'little groggy' from her collision.

Michele Williams unleashed a wrath of 'K Bombs' on the Tigerettes tonight.

Maybe they see how Magnolia kept the heat on with great play from an awesome supporting cast: Setter Hannah Davies serving her way with 5 Aces for the night and 17 Assists; Paige Holland's 2 Aces with 9 Assists; Kati Michael with 2 Assists; Jamie Kaleh with 6 Kills, 1 Solo Block with 1 Block Assist, 11 Digs and 1 Ace; Meagan Little had 4 Kills to go with her 1 Assist block; junior Kelli Stewart's 3 Kills, 2 Block Assists, and 5 Digs; libero Brittany Wheaton's 10 Digs.

A healthy Alicia Shaffer showing perfect form with this pass.

Alicia gave everyone a scare when she ran into the wooden stands!

The DAWGS had a 6 point spread when Conroe called a time out at 19-13, but the teams traded points (a luxury the Tigerettes could not afford) and finished the set and match by the same 6 points and for the second time this season - the Lady Bulldogs swept them clean, 3 straight! Here's a little audio file picking up in this last set:
