DAWGS Stuff Pantherettes

The Lady Dawgs continued their winning ways at home with another sweep of the Lufkin Pantherettes at the Dawg House Friday night by the scores of 25-14, 25-12, and 25-13. The winning streak is now at 23 and counting.....

The highlight of this night was that it was Senior night and the festivities afterwards were filled with pagentry and emotion capped with all kinds of presents for the seniors and desserts after the presentations. The match started fittingly with an Alicia Shaffer (senior) serve receive pass and a Michele Williams (senior) attack point that has probably been choreographed on the playing court at MHS over 1,000 times in their stellar 4 year varsity careers. It still NEVER gets old! Jamie Kaleh (senior) followed up with an attack point of her own to get the Dawgs off and rolling. Hannah Fort (senior) added a couple of kills to put the Lady Dawgs up 8-4. Brittany Wheaton (senior) kept the Lufkin offense at bay all night with her exceptional back row defense. A couple of Shaffer kills and aces sandwiched around a couple Williams attack points and the score was 20-12 Magnolia. Another Fort attack point helped close out game one at 25-14.

Game 2 was more of the same with the Juniors getting into the act and the remaining senior team players getting in on the action and playing well: Katie Kreft, Lynnsay Manning, and Kati Michael. Superb Junior setter Hannah Davies started out with a couple of ace serves to show why she's one of the district leaders in that category. Shaffer added back to back kills before Junior Kelli Stewart and Senior Katie Kreft combined to produce 10 straight service points - includng 3 consecutive aces by Stewart who is turning into a great all-around player. Wow! 15-3 Bulldogs. Breann Matula added a solo block and attack point to take the lead to 18-6. Fort and Shaffer added attack points to help the Ladies double up their district opponents from up north 22-11. Perhaps the highlight of the night on the court was Katie Kreft running the table with final 3 points of the game including an ACE serve. What a special night!

Game 3 was close early with Stewart, Kaleh, Williams, and Fort scoring points to keep the Dawgs close at 6-6. Megan Little joined the party with a monster kill to give the Lady Bulldogs a lead they would not relinquish. Wheaton got her turn in service rotation and after 10 consecutive service points the score was a comfortable 19-8. Can I hear another WOW!??

Williams added another patented kill shot and then Ashley Newman ended the kill stats for the night with an unreturnable bullet to make the final count 25-13.

Many thanks to Coach Johnson and her staff for organizing the festivities afterwards and to Van and Karen for hosting a small gathering for the seniors and their immediate family. It was a memorable night for the Magnolia volleyball family and one that will be remembered for setting the bar of excellence for years to follow. One more disrict match at The Woodlands on Tuesday night and that will end the district slate. Hopefully the Ladies can sweep again and complete district with a perfect 10-0 record and a perfect 30-0 game count. Come on out and support the Lady Bulldogs as they prepare for the upcoming state playoffs! It's going to get very exciting very soon!
