Lady Bulldogs Finalize Sweep of St Agnes

Let there be no doubt in this one - the Lady Bulldogs ruled the roost tonight in the DAWG House by leading throughout from the first and second set to a possible 'clincher' here in game 3. From the beginning of this set, the ladies have been maintaining close to a 7 point edge but slowed up a bit in the final minutes of the match where the Tigers made a desperate plea for clemency.

The Kill (K) signs were up by the Bulldog fans all

evening as the Lady Bulldogs overpowered St Agnes.

The Lady Bulldogs controlled the tempo and flow of the game in this third set. Actually, they controlled EVERY part of the game, except their serving!! The service errors and the level of the Lady Bulldogs' play kept the Lady Tigers within sight, but really not within striking distance. The Lady Tigers had to raise their level of play to stay with the DAWGS who had blistered them for the past 2 sets, and they played more aggressively, but it turned out that it ended up raising Magnolia's level as well. The Lady Tigers worked on the outsides of the hitting lanes and committed fewer errors while the Lady Bulldogs had a little trouble keeping their momentum.

Lady Bulldog MB Michele Williams punished the lady Tigers in this match with her

hard hitting. Not many players would want to be on the receiving end of this one!

Again, the ladies were off to a quick start with an OH Alicia Shaffer kill off the Lady Tigers' hands at 3-1; then a barrage of Michele Williams' firepower starting with a block at 4-1; a cross court kill at 6-2 and a service ace at 7-2 had the Tigers scampering. And again, Alicia had a similar kill as before at 8-2; MB Hannah Fort kept the spread at 6 points with a 'Hannah Hustle Glide' rocket at 11-5 before OHR Kelli Stewart put a kill down at 13-6; and Michele overpowered them with kills in the left corner at 14-8 and another for good measure at 16-8. The DAWGS still kept their distance between them, despite a late charge by the Tigers with help from OHL Kristyn Bergen's timely kill at 17-11; another Michele Williams' blast at 19-13; and a great shot from Alicia Shaffer in the middle of the court at 22-15. When Magnolia went on top at 23-16 with a Lady Tiger error, it looked like the knockout punch had been made but, not so fast................the Lady Tigers still had some fight in them and scored 4 straight points to close the gap to 3 points at 20-23, until a 'wall' put up quickly by Kelli Stewart and Michele Williams blocked the Tigers' attack at 24-20 - and once again, for the moment - the world was saved!........(okay, a little over-stated...at least our world was saved!) After a service error, the Tigers were close again at 21-24 and it took a Lady Tiger service error in the net, and at set/match point, for this one to close-out at 25-21.

By defeating the St Agnes Lady Tigers (20-6), the Magnolia Lady Bulldogs (18-7) have just completed their 3rd sweep in a row and 11th sweep of the new season!
